The client is a global infrastructure investment platform with over €65 billion in assets under management, specialising in large-scale renewable energy and storage. Its activities span offshore and onshore wind, solar PV, Power-to-X, transmission, and utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS).
Within energy storage, the client manages one of Europe\'s largest privately financed BESS portfolios, exceeding 1 GW of operational and committed capacity, with further multi-gigawatt projects advancing across the UK, continental Europe, and North America. These assets provide flexible grid capacity, optimise renewable generation, and strengthen energy-market resilience through participation in merchant, ancillary, and capacity markets.
The organisation combines institutional capital with deep technical and commercial capability, operating through an integrated model that connects investment, development, and delivery across all project phases.
The Role
The role is accountable for leading the commercial strategy, optimisation, and execution of the client\'s BESS portfolio across Europe. It requires ensuring bankability, managing key counterparties, and shaping the frameworks that underpin long-term asset performance, with core responsibilities including:
- Structuring and negotiating BESS Optimisation and Offtake Agreements.
- Managing the full commercial lifecycle from feasibility to financial close.
- Identifying and mitigating commercial, technical, and legal risks.
- Aligning internal teams (investment, legal, procurement, technical) and external partners.
- Advising investment committees on market attractiveness and revenue optimisation.
- Ensuring contractual structures support long-term stable returns and operational flexibility.
- Supporting broader storage-market strategy and portfolio expansion across Europe.
The Requirements
- Proven experience negotiating and closing BESS, renewable, or power-market commercial agreements.
- Strong understanding of BESS revenue mechanisms, including capacity, ancillary, and balancing services.
- Experience assessing and managing commercial risk across complex infrastructure projects.
- Financial and analytical capability to evaluate project value, revenue forecasts, and sensitivities.
- Ability to collaborate across technical, legal, and investment teams to deliver commercially robust outcomes.
- Track record influencing senior stakeholders and investment-level decision making.
- Demonstrated success delivering bankable BESS commercial structures and optimisation contracts.
- Experience driving projects through key investment and financial milestones (FID, FC, COD).
- Proven capability aligning diverse stakeholder groups and managing commercial risk effectively.
- Strong commercial judgement and precision in advising investment committees.
This position offers the opportunity to play a defining role in shaping the commercial strategy of a leading global energy infrastructure platform as it accelerates its expansion in storage and flexibility markets.
