Director, Environment and Climate Change Protomind Consulting seeks a Director to lead the Environment and Climate Change (E&CC) hub within the National Audit Office (NAO). The role focuses on influencing government delivery of net zero goals and advancing sustainability reporting and assurance standards. Responsibilities
Lead the E&CC hub, building capacity and delivering value for money insights on environmental sustainability and climate change. Develop and execute the hub’s long‑term strategy, aligned with NAO’s five‑year strategy. Initiate and advise on outputs, including good practice guides, value‑for‑money work and assurance activities. Build external networks with senior civil servants, Parliament, expert communities, standard‑setters and representative bodies. Lead teams and oversee expert advice on sustainability assurance and reporting matters. Drive development of a learning and professional development plan for environment and climate change programmes and sustainability reporting and assurance skills. Manage a core team of senior managers and analysts, coach and motivate professional development.
Qualifications
In‑depth experience analysing or auditing environment and climate policy interventions. Sound understanding of sustainability reporting frameworks, principles and standards. Proven leadership of multidisciplinary, high‑performance teams. Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, both internal and external. Ability to produce clear written outputs that engage a wide audience. Experience working effectively with public sector bodies is desirable.
