Job summary: This post offers an exciting opportunity to join and lead an innovative, growing NHS-based portfolio of ventures that aim to improve people\'s lives and mental health in a financially sustainable way. The post holder will report to the Executive Chief Commercial Officer, be part of the Commercial Enterprise Senior Leadership Team, and work with senior colleagues from within the Commercial Enterprise ventures, clinicians and senior leaders across the Trust and externally to develop partnerships that create high quality businesses and investments.
The role requires an interest in working commercially and creatively within the NHS, with an exceptional track record of commercial, strategic and operational delivery and a commitment to improving health and lives.
Main duties
The primary purpose of this role is to:
- Work with the Chief Commercial Officer to grow and develop Commercial Enterprise and its associated products, services and ventures.
- Support the CCO in delivering and iterating the Enterprise Strategy and any Trust commercial developments and/or strategic projects.
- Drive forward business developments and opportunities across Commercial Enterprise, working across and beyond the wider Trust, aligned to Enterprise and Trust strategy.
- Horizons scanning to develop the strategy and associated ventures based on innovation and activities within the Trust, our partners, and beyond.
- Assist in leading the Commercial Enterprise team with particular responsibility for the Maudsley Commercial Enterprise Business Plan and activity.
- Act as an internal trusted advisor to the board, Chief Executive, SMT and Clinical Academic Group leadership.

Job responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
These primary responsibilities are:
- Commercial Strategy
- Corporate responsibility for the development and implementation of the Trust\'s Commercial Strategy through Commercial Enterprise
- Horizon scanning to identify commercial opportunities across public and private sectors with the ability to set up, negotiate and seal deals aligned with the Enterprise Directorate business plan
- Lead the formulation of the business development strategy for the directorate within broader commercial objectives and present this plan across forums including the Trust Board and external ICS/NHSE forums
- Support the CCO in developing the Strategy for Commercial Enterprise and articulate and argue in favour of this plan across forums
- Lead on gaining and developing new venture opportunities and operationalisation of new ventures
- Support venture Directors/Managing Directors in Maudsley Learning, Maudsley Development, Maudsley Private Care, Trust Learning and Development and other units
- Support market analysis (national and international) to identify markets and trends
- Work with external partners within and outside the NHS, including internationally
- Develop operating models for Maudsley Enterprise in line with the strategy
- Commercial Partnership management
- Develop business opportunities with external parties and articulate plans across relevant forums
- Consult with and support CAG leadership in developing strategic commercial partners with robust due diligence, market requirements and value alignment
- Provide assurance to the Board on income streams, risks, and forecasts
- Commercial Contract Management
- Focus on exceptional contract management, tendering and running of contracts
- Manage outsourcing, managed services and commercial contracts
- Commercial Finance
- Assist with financial modelling of opportunities and liaise with Finance
- Lead the delivery of options appraisals and set up appraisal methods where required
- Tender, Bid and Grant Management
- Oversee formal tenders and manage bid decisions with the Head of Operations and Bids
- Team Management/Development
- Support the CCO and team; provide advice on commercial operations, IP and commercialisation
- Coach, develop and manage direct reports and the Commercial Enterprise senior team; promote anti-racism and EDI across the directorate
- Manage the Commercial Enterprise budget and oversee IP management and commercial training
- Commercial Project Management
- Lead non-NHS income ventures, structure opportunities and set up collaborations with external advisors as needed
- Support clinicians and staff in developing ventures and generating income and patents
- Provide commercial input into business cases and projects
- Product and service development
- Identify new business opportunities and manage through commercial gateways considering market position, cost, revenue, risk, governance and IP
- Commercial Governance and Trust Committees
- Prepare papers, attend and present to FPIC and ELT; develop the Business Development agenda with the Chair and CCO
- Information Resources
- Manage information resources for IP documentation and ensure GDPR and information governance compliance
- Research and development
- Understand how business development aligns with clinical and research work and represent the Trust in NIHR and translational work
Additional notes: Lead on pipeline data and tender submissions; identify opportunities for research and develop an international reputation.

Essential
- Postgraduate degree MBA or equivalent

- Higher degree PhD or equivalent
