Overview

Overall purpose of role: accountable for delivering successful end-to-end client outcomes through dynamic relationship management, insightful commercial knowledge, and championing our industry proposition to the Business Banking market, ensuring internal suppliers deliver against commitments and client journeys. A leader in the organisation, passionate about Innovation Banking clients, inspiring and developing colleagues to grow Business Banking, identify opportunities, drive growth, and become the trusted partner for growth. Acts as an agent for change, collaborates with colleagues and specialist partners across Barclays’ portfolio to maximise market opportunity and promote the Barclays brand in the region. As a senior leader, authentically champion Barclays Values and Leadership Capabilities, model leadership, manage team costs and budget, and support Relationship Managers in complex external negotiations.

Key Accountabilities

  • Encourage and nurture innovation and creative thinking; develop a culture where change is embraced and new and existing technologies are viewed positively and adapted to market needs.
  • Create a vision and culture for the team that embraces commercial and technological knowledge, shares learnings for development, and challenges processes that are no longer fit for purpose.
  • Accountable for delivering performance of Business Banking within the region, including great client outcomes and growth of P&L (income, debt, and deposit growth).
  • Actively grow market share by identifying and developing quality new business; develop and implement an industry strategy with Corporate and Investment Bank colleagues to drive ongoing growth and deeper market immersion.
  • Challenge the status quo and, through dynamic leadership, develop an integrated industry proposition to drive the Business Banking strategic agenda.
  • Oversee strong control management and ensure business planning is integral to portfolio performance.
  • Work with Credit Risk to balance risk and reward, proactively manage risk aspects including conduct and credit risk, and ensure the team complies with standards.

Stakeholder Management and Leadership

  • Develop a strong internal network across Barclays portfolios and external networks to create innovative, integrated strategies that support current and future needs; communicate effectively to a complex team.
  • Nurture senior external relationships to drive business progression by providing market and technology insights; mobilise networks to support knowledge and specialist advice; role-model excellence in customer and colleague interactions.
  • Decision-making and problem solving; assess complex trends to enable proposition development and aligned implementation; consider short- and long-term impacts of commercial decisions.

Purpose of the role

To manage relationship management initiatives and set strategic direction; provide support to the bank's senior management and manage product development risk across the organisation.

Accountabilities

  • Develop strategic direction for relationship management, including up-to-date methodologies and processes.
  • Manage relationship management initiatives, oversee colleagues and performance, and ensure department goals and efficiency.
  • Oversee relationship management stakeholder engagement and external third-party services quality.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for relationship management.
  • Manage relationship management risk, including risk identification, mitigation strategies, and alignment with compliance.
  • Monitor financial performance of relationship management, including revenue, profitability, and cost control.
  • Conduct market research to understand market trends, competitive landscape, and regulatory changes to identify opportunities.

Director Expectations

  • Provide significant input to function-wide strategic initiatives and influence policy and procedures; manage multiple complex projects.
  • Lead large teams or sub-functions, or act as a deep technical expert on organisation-wide projects, coaching others and driving long-term profits and risk awareness.
  • Provide expert advice to senior management and committees to influence decisions outside of own function; contribute to function-wide strategy.
  • Manage resourcing, budgeting and policy creation for a significant sub-function; escalate policy breaches appropriately.
  • Foster compliance and ensure relevant regulations are observed; monitor external environment and advocate as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate broad industry knowledge and up-to-date market developments; use analytical skills to solve problems and design solutions in complex situations.
  • Exercise management authority to make significant decisions; negotiate with and influence senior stakeholders; act as principal contact for key clients and counterparts; represent the function publicly as needed.
