to head the busy admissions department for the two leading independent schools. Location Abingdon Foundation, OX14 1DE Job Type: Full Time, Permanent Working Hours: 40 hours per week Salary: £55,000 per annum with potentially more for exceptional and highly experienced candidates Closing Date: 8 October 2025 midday About Us: Abingdon School is a leading independent day and boarding school with more than 1,000 pupils aged 11-18. Currently a boys' school, it will become co-educational from September 2026. Abingdon Prep School is a vibrant and warm day preparatory school with around 200 pupils aged 4-13 which has been co-educational since last year. Both Schools are situated in beautiful and extensive grounds, with the senior school in the heart of Abingdon on Thames, just south of Oxford, and the Prep School located a few miles away in nearby Frilford. Director of Admissions - The Role: The purpose of this role is to manage the operational function of the Admissions Department. The postholder is responsible for the day-to-day management of all aspects of the admissions process driving recruitment of new pupils across the Foundation and deputises for the Director of External Relations as appropriate. They will be a prominent ambassador for the Foundation and will combine a genuine commitment to excellent customer service and strong market knowledge with the provision of strong technical, numerical and IT skills. Director of Admissions - Responsibilities: - To be a key point of contact for all matters relating to admission to Abingdon School - To ensure that individual visits to the School are well coordinated for prospective parents and pupils - To meet personally with prospective parents and pupils to discuss matters relating to admission to Abingdon School - To organise and attend Abingdon School Open Days, entrance assessment days and other prospective pupils events such as taster mornings - Promote and market the school effectively in line with agreed strategy alongside the Director of External Relations and Director of Marketing and Communications Director of Admissions - You: - Educated to degree level or equivalent - Significant experience in admissions, marketing or customer-facing roles, preferable within the independent school sector - Experience managing teams and working collaboratively across departments - Familiarity with data analysis and using admissions/CRM systems to inform strategy and reporting - Strong leadership and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage competing priorities - Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) - In-depth understanding of the UK independent education sector, including current market trends and challenges Director of Admissions
