The Director of Cyber Security at Pulsant is a senior role responsible for protecting Pulsant’s business and client services from security threats and vulnerabilities. Reporting to the CTO, this role drives and evolves the Cyber Security strategy, manages the security threat landscape, and leads the existing small team and external partners across the organisation to protect systems and data.
With 14 data centre locations hosting infrastructure for over 1000 clients, Pulsant requires visible leadership to anticipate changes in the threat landscape and ensure a well-governed approach to cyber security.
Key responsibilities
Lead on the development and execution of Pulsant’s Cyber Security strategy, maintaining strong industry communication to stay ahead of threats and minimise risk to Pulsant and its clients
Develop and lead the in-house Cyber Security team, working closely with third parties to drive delivery on strategic and operational priorities
Engage with Pulsant leaders and specialists to ensure products and services are developed and run in line with Cyber Security best practice
Collaborate with the Risk and Assurance team and Corporate IT using a framework for regular Information Security & Cyber risk assessments; own planning and implementation of actions to minimise threats and vulnerabilities
Provide horizon scanning and thought leadership on IT Security innovations; stay abreast of latest cyber security technologies, risks and best practices
Oversee security relationships with key suppliers and partners delivering security services
Establish and ensure adherence to standard methods and approaches to ensure infrastructure, systems and services comply with current security standards and protocols
Support compliance to partner and external security accreditations (e.g., CE+ and ISO27001) with the Risk & Assurance team
Present and lead on key security insights for all areas of the business; educate and evangelise appropriate security measures
Mentoring, coaching, management support and development, including annual reviews and performance target reporting
Work with product and pre-sales teams to outline Pulsant’s security position and standards for new clients or large bids; undertake client presentations and engagements as necessary
Engage with shareholders and insurers to outline Pulsant’s Information and Cyber Security policies, procedures, metrics and roadmaps
What / who we\'re looking for
The Director of Cyber Security is a visible presence inside and outside Pulsant. The candidate will have relevant technical and Information Security qualifications and professional development, plus leadership experience. They should be a subject matter expert who can deploy their expertise to support Pulsant internally and with external stakeholders (including the Board, insurers and clients). Key requirements include:
Proven experience leading, developing, and motivating cyber security teams
Strong track record engaging with senior internal/external stakeholders and third-party cyber service providers (SOC, SIEM, Vulnerability, Incident Management)
Expertise in defining and implementing enterprise-wide cyber security strategies
Recognised cyber security leader with experience in commercial environments; able to represent the organisation confidently
Skilled at driving cultural change, influencing stakeholders, and providing thought leadership
Up-to-date knowledge of emerging threats, risks, and best practices in cyber and information security
Experience in budget ownership, cost control, and delivering measurable improvements/KPIs
Deep knowledge of security frameworks and standards (NIST CSF, ISO 27001, ISO 27032, PCI-DSS, PAS 555, Cyber Essentials)
Excellent relationship management, influencing and communication skills; commercially astute, logical, resilient, and solutions-focused
Degree in Technical/Information Security (or equivalent experience) plus at least two relevant certifications
Certifications such as CEH, CompTIA Security+, CISSP, CISM, CISA, NCSF, CHFI
