Overview
As Director of Engineering you’ll direct the engineering/maintenance of your hotel and ensure the safety and comfort of hotel guests and team members – making sure all activities are delivered safely and with compliance. Motivating and training your team with the skills to keep hotels always looking their best.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Communicating the goals of the company to all engineers and professionals in the team.
- Work with the design team to develop safe, efficient, and effective projects that will fall within the budget.
- Excellent relationships management skills with ability to engage, negotiate, and manage key stakeholders and suppliers.
- Evaluates all costs associated with each project including material, cost of labor and time expended.
- Produce and monitor budget for all program activities such as POMEC, CAPEX and project cost.
- Meet with and support other senior managers, including senior management in operations and finance.
- Must have superior budgeting and cost management abilities, assessing estimated costs early in the project and bringing the actual costs in line.
- Support, comply and ensure compliance with health & safety regulation, the company handbook, Quality and environment standards, and all other company policies and procedures.
- Ensure safety of the worksite during development
- Review all predictive, planned, preventative and routine maintenance equipment rounds, and service requests as directed for all equipment.
- Oversee and monitor the operation and adjustment of HVAC equipment and systems, electrical equipment and systems and plumbing equipment and systems.
- Work as part of the management team to share ideas and improve operation, recommending, supporting, and implementing continuous improvement activities and process and procedure improvement to optimize results and improve quality of delivery, in line with quality standard requirement delivery in line with company and customer requirements
- Review overall Utility systems and participate in sustainability program.
- Performing quality control checks on all systems and products.
- Maintain guestrooms using rooms preventive maintenance program and record all the information.
- Conduct and document safety, quality, and environment inspections
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure project success.
- Identify and deploy the technical skill sets, resource levels and systems to deliver projects, including the engagement of external resources as required.
- Quickly resolving disputes between staff and acknowledging or rewarding good work
- Monitor the completion of tasks and ensure good performance and record on appropriate systems.
- Hands-on daily management and supervision of the maintenance department including scheduling, hiring, training, and coaching of staff.
- Analyzing data and drafting reports for review.
People
- Direct daily engineering needs, plan and assign work ensuring you always have the right team in place.
- Develop your team and improve their performance through coaching and feedback and create performance and development goals for colleagues - recognise good performance.
- Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments.
- Communicate with all hotel department heads to stay informed of maintenance needs and ensure timely responses to requests.
Guest Experience
- Help guests needs to ensure their satisfaction.
- Use a maintenance programme to ensure the hotel is maintained and in service for our guests
Responsible Business
- Oversee the physical operations of the hotel, including maintenance and repair and order parts and supplies in a timely and efficient manner while minimising waste and maintaining “green” initiatives.
- May be responsible for hotel security to minimise risk of theft, crime and other hazards.
- Ad-hoc duties – unexpected moments when we have to pull together to get a task done
Accountabilities
This is the top Maintenance/Engineering job in a large, luxury, resort, or major flagship hotel with multiple sites and facilities, a number of major outlets, high-volume catering and convention facilities, and a large number of VIP and key guests. Supervises a staff of maintenance/engineering tradespersons and contractors. May oversee subordinate managers and supervisors.
What we need from you
- Some college or advanced vocational training
- Four years’ experience in general building maintenance and/or construction or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Specialised expertise in plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and carpentry fields
- Level 3 EPA Certification, HVAC and refrigeration certificate, licensed plumber and/or journeyman status for electrician and carpenter may be required.
- Hotel experience required.
- Professional certification and licence if required by law.

We have the annual salary range for this position is $48,000 – 54,000. USD. This rate is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Grenada. This is the starting rate we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may pay more or less than the posted rate, and the rate may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay position within the pay range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs.
