The Brain Tumour Charity is leading the way in research, support, and advocacy for everyone affected by brain tumours. Our mission is simple but urgent: to accelerate a cure for brain tumours and improve life for everyone affected by this devastating disease.
We have a five‑year strategy with three strategic priorities: to transform the research landscape, to raise voices to campaign for change, and to improve quality of life through providing support and best care for everyone diagnosed with a brain tumour. This role ensures strong financial health, governance, and IT services to achieve these ambitions.
Reporting directly to the CEO and as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director of Finance and Resources provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of the Finance, Governance, Planning and Performance, IT Services, and Facilities teams. The role is also Company Secretary and SLT Lead for the Finance Committee and Governance & Ethics Committee. The postholder leads a department of approximately 15 colleagues, with five direct reports, including three Heads of Teams (Finance, IT, and Planning & Performance), a Data Governance Manager, and a Facilities Manager.
We’re looking for
- A qualified accountant with strong senior leadership experience in a similar role from any sector.
- A self‑assured professional capable of partnering with non‑financial colleagues to support strategic change.
- Resourceful and innovative, with excellent business partnering skills, operating as a strategic adviser to the CEO, SLT, and board of trustees.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and planning and governance strategies.
Key accountabilities
- Strategic leadership and support of Senior Leadership Team in developing and delivering strategic plans.
- Develop and lead a medium‑term finance and resources strategy aligned to organisational goals.
- Provide trusted advice to the CEO and Board on financial, operational and governance matters.
- Champion a culture of accountability, performance and continuous improvement.
- Accountable for financial management and performance, including design and delivery of finance strategy, financial modelling and forecasting.
- Senior leadership of finance team, ensuring strong analysis, plans, controls, policies and risk management.
- Provide timely, accessible and useful financial information, KPIs, and analysis to SLT, budget holders, Finance Committee and Trustees.
- Complete annual budgets and 5‑year projections, providing analysis of key trends and variances.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations (Gift Aid, VAT), corporate finance policies and charity regulations.
- Lead financial audit and year‑end processes, ensuring SORP and other regulations compliance.
- Oversee governance, data security, risk and compliance, acting as Data Protection Officer and Company Secretary.
- Lead IT services and operations, ensuring secure, scalable systems and strategic procurement.
- Oversee facilities management, health & safety, business continuity and environmental sustainability.
