Director of Finance - JPUH

New Today

The Norfolk and Waveney University Hospitals Group (NWUHG) was established in May 2025, bringing together Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Trust, James Paget University Hospitals NHS Trust (JPUH), and Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn. This is one of the most ambitious system integration programmes in the NHS today, and strong financial leadership at each site will be instrumental in making it a success.

This is a truly exciting time to join JPUH as Director of Finance, as we shape and deliver our strategy to achieve better outcomes for patients across the region. We are currently developing our EPR for roll out in 2026 and JPUH is part of the national New Hospitals Programme. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, backed by significant government investment, to transform and to deliver better care to all our communities.

Main duties of the job

Reporting to the Executive Managing Director, and with professional accountability to Marcus Thorman - Group Chief Financial Officer & Deputy CEO, you will hold responsibility for the overall financial performance of the Trust and provide expert financial advice to both the site-based leadership team and the wider Group leadership team. As a key member of the Hospital Management Board, you will play a central role in shaping the Trust's future success, setting financial plans and strategy at site level in alignment with Group objectives.

A key challenge for our Group and for JPUH is delivering financial sustainability. The Trust has a balanced plan for 2025/26 with the Trust in receipt of £19m of deficit support funding in 25/26. Key to our progress is transformation both within the Trust and across the Group. We have stabilised our expenditure and are working with clinical and operational colleagues to improve productivity, which is also addressing waiting times in elective and cancer care. At the JPUH you will be working with an engaged Executive Managing Director who understands and is responsive to the challenges faced.
