A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Director of Finance to join a well-established, UK business that is currently undergoing a major transformation programme. Operating at significant scale across multiple sites and business units, the company is embarking on a journey to modernise and elevate its finance function, and this role is right at the heart of that change.

Reporting directly to a recently appointed CFO this role offers both strategic influence and hands‑on leadership in reshaping finance from the ground up. You’ll be responsible for leading the Financial Control and Transaction Services functions, overseeing group accounting, audit, tax, AP, AR, treasury, and controls.

This is more than just a technical finance role, it’s an opportunity to embed cultural change, simplify ways of working, and implement best practice across a business that is investing heavily in its future.

The culture

The organisation combines a values‑led, established privately owned ethos with the pace, complexity, and scale of a commercial enterprise. The leadership team is highly committed to transparency, collaboration, and continuous improvement. While finance has historically been under‑invested, there is now full board‑level sponsorship to build a best‑in‑class function that truly enables growth and drives business performance.

This is a business where your voice will be heard, your ideas will be actioned, and your leadership will directly shape outcomes. The environment is fast‑paced but down‑to‑earth, ideal for someone who balances strategic thinking with a hands‑on, sleeves‑rolled‑up approach.

Key accountabilities

  • Lead and develop a high‑performing Financial Control function, ensuring robust controls, technical integrity, and clear governance across the group
  • Own the financial close, group consolidation and external audit processes with clear timetables and disciplined execution
  • Deliver clear, accurate and insightful statutory reporting, with a vision to evolve group accounts into more transparent, engaging communications
  • Oversee AP, AR, Treasury and tax compliance, ensuring timely and efficient service delivery
  • Present regularly to the Audit & Risk Committee, including papers, technical policy updates and governance reporting
  • Evaluate and implement transformation opportunities including potential outsourced/offshore models to drive efficiency and lower cost to serve
  • Empower and coach teams, embedding a high‑performance culture through strong leadership, development, and collaboration

What we’re looking for

  • ACA qualified (ideally Big 4 trained), with strong technical accounting expertise and practical leadership experience
  • Experience of managing large teams.
  • A proven Financial Controller or Head of Financial Control with experience in multi‑site, fast‑moving, complex businesses, ideally FMCG, Consumer‑led industries or a large complex multinational
  • Deep experience leading transformation in finance functions, from process redesign to implementing new technology and operating models (including outsourcing or shared services)
  • Gravitas and credibility to influence C‑suite, Board, and senior stakeholders in a dynamic, growing environment
  • A culture carrier who leads through collaboration, inclusion and integrity and who thrives on improving people, systems and processes
  • Emotionally intelligent, commercially astute, and comfortable with ambiguity and change
