Job title: Director of HR Business Partnering (12 month Fixed Term Contract)
Location: Remote – with regular UK-wide travel

Your new role
Here at Hitachi Rail, we have a fantastic opportunity for a people focused and driven individual to join our UK HR team on an initial 12 month Fixed Term Contract. As the Director for HR Business Partnering you will hold responsibility for:
Ensuring continuity of service in HR Business Partnering, including handover from current incumbent
Working with Global HRBPs & UK Region Lead to establish delivery methodology aligned to the new op model
Conducting a full capability review of current team against future role/ op model requirements
Supporting Senior HR leaders in transitioning current to future model
Supporting stakeholders (internal & external to HR) in the management of change and implementation of the new model (all areas, not just HRBP team)
Some core responsibilities will include:
- Partnering closely with Global HRBPs/ COEs and senior stakeholders to ensure delivery of fit for purpose people strategies
- Leading a team of strategic talent partners and senior advisors to the business
- Acting as a point of escalation for the HRBP team
- Acting as a subject matter expert (SME) on M&A, TUPE and business transformation activity
- Supporting the M&A team in examining potential options and subsequently leading on the HR workstream and related employment matters
- Supporting UK Region lead in the implementation of the new Global operating model, with the key focus on capability assessment of current team and alignment to new structure, leading/ supporting required processes, such as consultation, where required
- Supporting, as required, the resolution of complex, sensitive or high-profile ER cases, appeals and/ or IR disputes as appropriate
- Building and maintaining close relationships with the wider UK HR team and Global colleagues to ensure teams are operating in a joined up, supportive and efficient manner to deliver strategic objectives
- Ensuring delivery and support of all cyclical people-related activities, including but not limited to Global Performance Management (GPM) ratings and calibrations, Talent Management, Succession Planning, Performance Related Pay, Bonus and Employee Insights
- Providing expert advice to business leaders and HR colleagues on the pragmatic application of policy, process and other related guidance to fit business needs whilst remaining compliant and fair
- Ensuring alignment and consistency in HRBP delivery across all LoBs and Functions in the UK
- Holding accountability for Industrial Relations in the UK LoBs, including implementation of a fit-for-purpose IR strategy and oversight of all pay (or other) negotiations
- Building and maintaining effective relationships with key Trade Union external stakeholders to support collaboration in business and people activities
- Seeking and optimising opportunities to coach and challenge senior leaders where necessary to support improvements in all aspects of People & Culture
- Coaching and challenging team members to deliver to the highest standards, to deliver as one team and with our customers (managers and employees) at the heart of all we do
- Providing support and development for team members and colleagues as required, to ensure excellent service delivery within a challenging and complex environment
- Supporting the development and embedding of effective workforce planning to enable a joined-up approach to business, Finance and HR when resource & budget planning
- Monitoring and report on key people-related measures and ensure consistent and pro-active management and improvement plans across areas, where necessary
- Working with HR leadership team in improvement activities relating to HR process and policy, data management and HR service level
- Working collaboratively with HR colleagues throughout all lines of business to ensure consistency in approach
- Fostering a positive working environment for all Hitachi Rail Ltd employees and supporting the business in working to become and employer of choice

About you
- CIPD Level 7 or equivalent qualification or demonstrable experience
- Working knowledge of UK employment law and legislation affecting employment
- Demonstrable experience of supporting the development of pragmatic business solutions
- Experience of leading a team of HR generalists
- Experience of leading teams and delivering in a remote-working and/or multi-site environment
- Ability to evidence a continuous improvement mind-set
- Experience in a fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholders
- Experience of working in an environment of ambiguity and complexity
- Effective facilitation, influencing, conflict-resolution and negotiation skills.
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience of effective stakeholder management at all levels of an organisation
- Ability to build rapport quickly and maintain effective relationships
- Confident leading on all aspects of people management and development
- Experience of working with Trade Unions
- Excellent IT skills – typically Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project and MS Teams.
- Experience within Engineering, Manufacturing or Industrial organisations, multi-site operations and/ or rail
- Experience of complex business change, TUPE, mobilisation work or similar
