OverviewJob Title: Director of Markets Operations – Lloyds Banking Group. Reports to: CIB Chief Operating Officer. Location: London, Birmingham or Manchester. Hours: Full Time. Working Pattern: Hybrid, with spending at least two days per week, or 40% of time, at one of our core offices.Core purpose of roleThis role demands strategic leadership, with the ability to lead and inspire teams in the UK and offshore. The Market Operations Director provides leadership and strategic direction for Technical Specialist Middle Office support to the markets business, as well as complex Middle and Back Office Operations supporting markets businesses across Business and Commercial Banking, Corporate and Institutional Banking, Lloyds Bank Corporate Markets, and Group Corporate Treasury in the UK, Europe, and New York.Leads specialist technical middle office functions and collaborates with Chief Controls Office for surveillance so that market abuse and conduct are considered across the relevant teams. Manages colleagues across multiple locations to ensure a one-team collaborative approach. Drives business efficiency and costs, focusing on a holistic technology-enabled digitisation, automation, and offshoring roadmap to deliver value to customers.Accountable for the settlement's infrastructure supporting the markets business, managing daily cash and bond settlements averaging £400-450bn across 47 currencies. This is a highly regulated role and demands post-trade regulatory compliance with global regulations including MiFID, Dodd-Frank, EMIR, and SFTR. Owns and manages LBG's Financial Market Infrastructure (FMIs) and ensures accountability for FMIs under the Bank of England Funding in Resolution directive. Embraces future digital skills such as data analytics, AI, cybersecurity, and blockchain technology. Promotes continuous learning, agile methodologies, collaborative technology platforms, and a culture of innovation to drive digital transformation and operational excellence.Key ResponsibilitiesProcess – Craft and maintain a robust operating and control framework to ensure service excellence, including accountability for two Important Business Processes (IBPs).Regulatory – Operate in a highly regulated environment; responsible for global compliance and post-trade reporting to relevant regulatory bodies across nine impacting regulations.Data Ownership – Data owner for over 100 relevant systems, ensuring data integrity and associated user access management for their areas.Manage & Mitigate Operational Risks – Proactively identify indicators of market operational risk, ensuring controls uphold regulatory standards and protect trading integrity. Collaborate across teams to strengthen governance and embed ethical compliance.Client Experience – Maintain operational service levels to delight customers and colleagues.Transformation – Accountable for enduring change programmes and for influencing and supporting investment programmes and platform changes to maximise benefits realisation.Future Digital Skills – Promote data analytics, AI, cybersecurity, and blockchain; support continuous learning and agile ways of working to drive digital transformation and operational excellence.Cash Management and Financial Control – Ownership of the markets FMIs under BoE Recovery & Resolution plans. Manage cash across external accounts and oversee operations with wholesale clearing memberships and related Nostro/Custody activities; represent Group in industry working groups (SWIFT, ISDA, ICMA).People Leadership – Act as a Group Role Model; formalise delegation of authorities and ensure training, accreditation, and performance appraisal processes; manage teams across diverse locations including partners in India.Key capabilities, knowledge, skills, and experienceMarkets & Treasury Knowledge – Deep knowledge of markets products and operational risk; accountable for relevant regulations and safeguarding the organisation's reporting obligations.Ability to identify, assess, monitor, control, and mitigate market risks with strong governance and resilience.Leads governance of critical supplier relationships and contracts as Accountable Person; ensures compliance and drives value across third-party engagements.Business Strategy and Model – Understands LBG's strategy and operating model; translates requirements into scalable operating frameworks and medium-term plans.Financial Analysis and Control – Strong financial acumen; manages budgets and financial challenges with controls and value delivery.Leadership and Change – Drives operational efficiency, builds high-performing teams, fosters inclusion and continuous improvement, and delivers scalable transformation programmes.About Working for usWe are committed to inclusion and diversity, aiming for a workplace where everyone belongs.
