OverviewEpsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust and St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust operate as a hospital group with a shared executive leadership team. The Group Chief Nurse (GCNO) and Group Chief Medical Officer (CMO) are the Executive Directors jointly accountable for delivering the quality and safety agenda, including patient experience.The post holder will provide strong operational and professional leadership to maternity and gynaecology services, oversee day-to-day site operations, and drive transformative and efficient delivery of Trust services within the divisional structure.The role is professionally accountable to the Site Chief Nurse for supporting delivery of the quality agenda and patient safety strategy, with the Group Chief Nurse holding overall accountability for maternity services. The post holder reports to the CWDT Division leadership and supports professional practice in line with statutory, professional, and clinical governance requirements.The role involves supporting the Trust on all aspects of professional practice relating to women’s services and providing professional advice on maternity matters and strategic development of services.There is a strong focus on strategic delivery of high standards of care, working in partnership with organisations across SW London and Surrey Heartlands Local Maternity System, and engaging with Integrated Care Boards, maternity providers, Public Health England, Health Education England, Care Quality Commission, the Regional Chief Midwife, Royal Colleges and other stakeholders. The post holder will be accountable to the Group Chief Nurse and will play a key leadership role within the division.The post holder works closely with the Divisional Chair and Divisional Director of Operations (DDO) for the CWDT Division, leading midwifery and gynaecology development programmes, recruitment and retention, and initiatives to measure and improve standards of care and women’s experience.St George’s, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group serves a population of four million people in South West London and North East Surrey across sites including St George’s Hospital (major trauma centre and teaching hospital), St Helier Hospital (Renal and Transplantation unit and Children’s hospital), and Epsom Hospital (South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre).Since forming a hospitals group in 2021, the two Trusts have continued to collaborate on research, development, education, and training for a 17,000-strong workforce, while remaining separate Trusts.The post holder will ensure robust clinical governance and risk management, act as a Maternity Safety Champion, and contribute to strategic and innovative midwifery developments across SWL and Surrey Heartlands Local Maternity System, including ongoing transformation to deliver safety and the Better Births agenda.The post holder will lead a standardized approach to delivering NHS Resolution Safety Actions, support CNST recommendations, and implement the SBLCB.
