About UKRIO
The UK Research Integrity Office (UKRIO) is the UK’s national advisory body for research integrity. We support the research community through expert guidance, training, and thought leadership to promote good research practice and culture.
We’re dedicated to ensuring research across the UK is trustworthy, ethical, and responsible. Since 2006, UKRIO has provided independent guidance to researchers and the public, promoting best practices in research culture, ethics, governance, and authorship.
About the role
UKRIO is entering an exciting phase of transformation, launching an ambitious new strategy to expand its reach and influence across the research landscape.
We are seeking a strategic and dynamic Director of Policy and External Affairs to lead our work in influencing, engagement, and thought leadership.
This newly created role offers a unique opportunity to shape and influence national conversations on research integrity. Acting as a key spokesperson, you will be instrumental in raising UKRIO’s profile, amplifying our voice, and maximising our impact across government, academia, funders, publishers, and the public.
You will lead UKRIO’s external engagement portfolio, encompassing communications, external engagement, and public affairs whilst cultivating relationships that advance UKRIO’s mission and influence.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead UKRIO’s external engagement portfolio, including communications, public affairs, and strategic initiatives.
Act as a key spokesperson, championing research integrity and cultivating high-impact relationships.
Collaborate with the CEO and Senior Leadership Team to deliver strategic objectives and embed a culture of excellence.
Drive thought leadership and policy development that influences national practice and debate.
About You
We’re looking for someone with:
Proven experience in policy, public affairs, or strategic communications ideally at a national level.
Strong understanding of the research, charity, or public sector landscape.
Exceptional communication and influencing skills.
A passion for ethical leadership and driving meaningful change.

25 days annual leave pro rata (exclusive of statutory and public holidays) and an additional 3 days of annual leave covering the closure of the charity during the Christmas period
