Overview

The Barrow Cadbury Trust is an independent charitable foundation seeking a just and peaceful society which recognises the equal value of all people. We work in partnerships to bring about structural change to increase social justice and equality. We are recruiting a Director of Programmes and Learning to join our Executive Team and lead programmes informed by the experience of those affected by inequality and injustice issues we seek to address.

The role combines programme leadership, grant-making oversight and learning; you will work closely with the Chief Executive and Board, manage staff and contractors, and represent the Trust externally to forge relationships with partners and create opportunities for collaboration and investment.

Responsibilities

  • Guide and support the programme team as they design and deliver ambitious programmes that build power in communities and drive systemic change.
  • Oversee grant-making processes to ensure they are robust and transparent.
  • Ensure learning and evaluation from across programmes is gathered, shared and used to influence wider change.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Executive and Board on the Trust’s strategic direction; manage and develop staff and contractors.
  • Represent the Trust in meetings and at events, building relationships with partners and creating opportunities for collaboration and investment.

Qualifications and experience

  • Senior leader with experience of programme leadership, grant-making and advocacy.
  • Skilled at working across diverse teams and sectors, able to balance strategy with delivery.
  • Committed to amplifying the voices of those most affected by inequality and to long-term change in line with the Trust’s mission.

About the role and process

You will join the Executive Team and contribute to the Trust’s strategic direction while leading our programme and learning agenda. You will work with a wide range of partners, oversee our grant-making, and ensure robust evaluation informs wider change. Externally, you will represent the Trust in meetings and events, forging relationships and new opportunities for collaboration and investment.
