LCH Ltd is an international multi-asset class central counterparty clearing house (CCP), part of the London Stock Exchange Group. LCH Ltd serves a broad range of exchanges and over-the-counter trading platforms providing critical risk management services. It has a unique membership model and its customers span the globe and include major financial groups (including the majority of the major investment banks), broker-dealers and specialist commodity houses and a wide range of buy-side and real-money firms including major asset managers and large hedge funds.

This role provides an opportunity to work on one of the most critical finance technology functions in the world. The LCH CCP is systematically important to the world's financial model and this provides an exciting model for running technology that has to be very resilient and with strong controls and in a growing business. LSE Group also provides a chance to work with other technology teams across the Exchange, and the rest of the Post Trade Businesses.

LCH SwapClear is the major clearing business for LCH and LSEG, one of the company flagships and the market leader in IRS Clearing. SwapClear is the largest global Rates platform in the world with the highest standards of resilience. The Platform clears ~9m new trades per annum and supports daily various post-trade processing, such as margin optimisations. 90% of the cleared interest rate swaps globally pass through the platform and we regularly clear in excess of $3.5 trillion notional per day with over 60 member bank groups and over 1000 clients serviced.

Role Profile

We are seeking a highly experienced Quality Engineering Director to lead the definition and delivery of a cohesive testing strategy for the SwapClear and Listed Rates division at LCH.

As a senior lead you are expected to inspire change across the organisation, drive consistency and embed quality across the full SDLC process. You will work closely with business and technology partners to ensure that all aspects of the software development lifecycle is delivered to high levels of quality and using modern testing standards, automation and cloud- practices. This is an opportunity for someone with extensive hands-on experience leading quality assurance in a relevant domain to define and implement the improved quality journey for a systematically important platform that is critical for the functioning of the global financial markets. LCH (London Clearing House) has a large, multi-year change programme, in the SwapClear and Listed Rates business lines in terms of transformation of to its technology platform and cloud-based infrastructure migrations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and deliver the testing strategy for SwapClear and Listed Rates, ensuring alignment with the Group Testing Standard, Enterprise architecture and Technology strategy.
  • Define and own performance metrics to measure progress against Quality Engineering goals.
  • Drive delivery of high-quality software by embedding robust testing practices across the full SDLC, ensuring applications meet required quality characteristics including performance, reliability, and security.
  • Establish and evolve efficient testing processes that align with architectural, operational, and risk management frameworks, ensuring scalable and sustainable quality assurance practices.
  • Accountability for test env availability, access control, deployments, utilisation and data management.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners, using influence and trust to drive alignment, resolve challenges, and promote shared quality goals.
  • Champion modern testing tools and practices, including test automation, CI/CD integration, and cloud-testing approaches, to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Define and be responsible for the test automation framework strategy.
  • Define scalable, robust and secure test data management strategies.
  • Support transformation initiatives, including cloud infrastructure migrations and platform simplification, by ensuring quality is embedded from design through to delivery.
  • Ensure that the skills and experience of all team members are consistent with the business and technology needs for providing quality in present and future services.
  • Continually invest in the ongoing performance and development of a highly engaged and performing team. Build strong development plans for key talent and ensure appropriate succession planning across the team.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to the Software testing and development communities, promoting high performance, innovation, and professional growth.

Required Experience, Skills and Traits

  • Extensive experience leading quality engineering function for business critical technology platforms.
  • Demonstrable track record of successful implementation of quality engineering practices and test automation capabilities, covering numeric regression, functional, performance and resilience.
  • Practical experience implementing and using modern Test management technology stack, e.g. Zephyr, TestRail etc.
  • Knowledge and experience using different test definition and execution frameworks, such as Selenium and Cucumber, and an understanding of their pros and cons.
  • Passionate about metrics driven approach and leading with data.
  • Detail oriented problem solver, comfortable diving-deep in terms of test design and execution.
  • Consistent track record of leading change in a complex and large organisation.
  • Practical experience of Agile Development lifecycle with Scrum or similar.
  • Educated to university degree level, plus frequent and recent training in relevant technologies.
  • Experience a range of testing methodologies, such as Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD).
  • Knowledge of Financial Products, such as IR Swaps and Listed Rates markets.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to use own initiative and of a pro-active nature.
  • Able to read and understand code.
  • Experience managing a distributed team.

Desired Experience, Skills and Traits

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent
  • Knowledge and practical experience with running technology both on prem and in cloud.
  • Good understanding of Cyber security domain
  • Background working in Financial industry
  • Experience of Murex or similar vendor platform
