Salary: £60-£65,000 depending on experience, + quarterly performance bonus

We are looking for an experienced, dynamic, and strategic Director of Sales to drive the growth of our business, build lasting relationships with clients, and oversee the sales team to meet and exceed revenue targets.
Role Overview:
The Director of Sales will be responsible for the overall strategy, leadership, and execution of the sales department at Mary Ward House Conference and Events Centre. This role requires a motivated and results-driven individual who will manage the sales team, develop new business opportunities, maintain strong client relationships, and ensure the venue’s sales targets are achieved.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the events and hospitality industry, with a proven track record in sales leadership, strategic planning, and business development. You will play a key role in shaping the direction of the sales function and will work closely with the senior leadership team to support the venue’s growth and success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sales Strategy and Leadership: Develop and implement a comprehensive sales strategy to achieve and exceed revenue goals for the conference and events centre. Lead, mentor, and manage the sales team, providing guidance, support, and development to ensure a high-performing, motivated team. Analyze market trends, competitors, and customer feedback to continuously improve sales tactics and offerings.
- Business Development: Identify and pursue new business opportunities, including corporate clients, associations, and social events. Build and maintain relationships with key clients, ensuring the highest level of customer satisfaction and retention. Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities to build brand awareness and expand the client base.
- Client Relationship Management: Oversee the negotiation and closing of contracts, ensuring all client needs and expectations are met. Collaborate closely with the operations team to ensure smooth event execution and that client objectives are fulfilled. Address and resolve any client concerns or issues promptly to maintain strong, long-lasting relationships.
- Sales and Marketing Collaboration: Work closely with the marketing team to align sales efforts with marketing campaigns, materials, and promotions. Monitor sales performance metrics and generate regular reports for senior management.
- Revenue Management: Ensure pricing strategies are competitive, aligned with market trends, and maximize revenue. Manage the sales pipeline, forecasting, and budgets to meet sales targets.
- Team Development and Performance: Lead by example, fostering a team-oriented culture with a focus on collaboration and mutual success. Conduct regular training and development programs to ensure the team remains at the forefront of industry trends and customer service excellence.
Required Experience & Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in a sales leadership role, preferably within the events, hospitality, or conference venue industry. Proven track record of successfully managing a sales team, driving revenue growth, and meeting/exceeding sales targets. Strong experience in B2B sales and business development, with a demonstrated ability to build relationships at senior levels. In-depth understanding of event planning, conference management, and the logistics involved in running large-scale events.
- Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate at all levels. Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make data-driven decisions. Proficiency in CRM software, Microsoft Office Suite, and sales forecasting tools. Strong leadership, coaching, and team-building skills.
- Additional Requirements: Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities. A passion for delivering exceptional customer service and creating memorable event experiences. Fluent in both written and spoken English.
