Director of Strategy and Transformation

New Yesterday

About the role

This is a newly created, high‑profile role that brings together strategy, policy, transformation, digital innovation, communications and business intelligence under a single leadership.

You’ll lead the council‑wide transformation agenda, ensuring ambitious programmes deliver meaningful outcomes for residents. You’ll drive a forward‑thinking digital strategy, harnessing technology and data to unlock opportunities, improve services and enable modern, customer‑focused ways of working.

You’ll also champion strategic communications, ensuring our messaging reflects our priorities and builds trust with residents, partners and stakeholders. By strengthening business insight and intelligence, you’ll enable smarter, evidence‑based decision‑making across the Council.

This is your opportunity to join the Corporate Management Team and work alongside senior leaders and elected members to influence real change and deliver a positive impact on the lives of local people.

About you

We’re looking for an ambitious, strategic and inspiring leader who can navigate complexity, unite diverse teams and connect the golden thread from strategy to delivery. You will have a vision to see the bigger picture and the ability to articulate the golden thread from the Council Plan across a large, diverse service area.

You will understand and be inspired by technological innovation and how this can deliver transformation, service excellence and efficiency, while safeguarding our information assets and keeping systems secure.

Your leadership style will be collaborative and inclusive, with a strong focus on community impact and tackling inequalities. You will thrive on driving cultural and organisational change, using data and insight to inform decisions and deliver improved outcomes for residents.

Equally, you’ll foster a culture of creativity and continuous improvement, motivating teams to innovate, challenge old ways of working and deliver better services for the people of Walsall.

Above all, you’ll share our ambition for the borough and bring the determination, strategic perspective and personal credibility needed to deliver transformation at pace and scale. This is your opportunity to make a lasting impact, shaping services, empowering communities and helping us realise the vision set out in Walsall 2040.

Why Walsall?

Driven by our ambitious partnership strategy and vision ‘We Are Walsall 2040’, this is an exciting time to work for us, with extensive borough‑wide regeneration projects, innovative work in our children’s and adults social care space and advances in technology driving and changing how we do our business and how we engage with our residents. Our residents are at the heart of what we do and, driven by our values, we will make a difference to the lives of everyone who lives and works here.

This is more than a strategy and transformation role – it’s a chance to shape the way a forward‑looking Council delivers for its people. You’ll join a Corporate Management Team with a clear vision for the next decade and beyond, where your expertise will directly influence our success.
