Our UK Environment Practice is a vibrant network of approximately 700 people providing world class consultancy and advisory services. The work we do is important and influential: it shapes client thinking, enables better judgments and helps deliver projects in a world of disruption and change. We are looking for an experienced Technical Director to broaden our successful and progressive team of Environmental Consultants throughout the UK.

The team is strongly integrated with our transport, energy, engineering and design businesses. We are currently providing planning and environmental support on major UK projects for clients, including water companies Yorkshire Water and Anglian Water, significant rail projects like Trans Pennine Upgrade for Network Rail and HS2, and major road schemes for National Highways. We continue to expand our presence in the energy and renewables market including hydrogen generation (e.g., Hynet at Ellesmere Port), electricity transmission (e.g., National Grid), floating offshore wind (e.g., Flotation Energy) and Nuclear Waste Services support.

The position requires a candidate that combines an excellent track record in environmental assessment with experience in directing and delivering a range of infrastructure and development projects with excellent business and people skills.

Your purpose

  • Strengthen technical leadership, assurance, and governance across the EIA and EAM disciplines.
  • Expand the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental Assessment Management (EAM) team nationally.
  • Represent EIA and EAM internally and externally to win and deliver client-focused projects.
  • Align EIA and EAM delivery with AtkinsRéalis' mission for growth and success.
  • Drive innovation through advanced processes and technologies in environmental assessment.
  • Increase visibility of discipline capabilities and value propositions across the business.
  • Maintain and improve service delivery quality, informed by client feedback.
  • Support PHoD, Network Chairs, and Fellows in promoting technical excellence and innovation.
  • Advocate for AtkinsRéalis' technical strengths within and beyond the organization.
  • Lead thought leadership initiatives to shape markets and introduce clients to new approaches.

  • Coordinate discipline resources across regional teams for efficient delivery.
  • Share project and client insights to drive business growth and improve margins.
  • Support strategic development of the Service Line.
  • Ensure technical excellence and assurance in core project delivery.
  • Strengthen collaboration with the Global Technology Centre to enhance efficiency and capability.
  • Oversee specialist inputs to ensure high-quality, first-time-right delivery.
  • Promote high environmental standards in multidisciplinary projects for optimal outcomes.
  • Produce and review clear, well-written reports from diverse information sources.
