Overview
This is a highly influential, high-visibility leadership opportunity and a key member of our Executive Leadership Team. You will be instrumental in transforming our business and culture, overseeing about 300 stores and a number of Regional Managers across the Division. We are looking for an exceptional retail leader and a proven people mentor who can empower and support their team to achieve outstanding results. You will pioneer a customer- and colleague-first sales culture, elevating our teams into high-performing sales professionals who deliver exceptional service. This role also plays a pivotal part in our operational transformation, shaping the future of our store estate and format, requiring robust project management skills and the ability to lead significant change initiatives. This is a unique chance to lead sales in high-turnover stores, boost income through continuous innovation, and influence our strategic direction.
Day To Day Responsibilities
- Lead from the front: Inspire and embody our core values (We Care, Better Together, We give our Best to be the Best), fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
- Champion safety: Uphold our industry-leading health and safety standards, ensuring every colleague returns home safe and well at the end of their shift, and driving our HSE goals.
- Drive continuous performance improvement: Empower stores to cultivate customer relationships, innovate propositions, and optimise processes for enhanced profitability and minimised costs.
- Inspire customer-centricity: Ensure every decision prioritises the customer, motivating store teams to listen to needs, understand local markets, support communities, and deliver an exceptional Toolstation experience.
- Achieve operational excellence: Encourage clear reporting, collaborate with store, regional, head office, and field teams, and stay updated on innovations to inspire stores to exceed sales targets.
- Demonstrate commercial acumen: Continuously build knowledge of market trends, monitor competitors, and track store performance to drive continuous improvement and address issues swiftly.
- Proven commercial leadership: A strong track record of improving performance and driving profit in a target-driven, multi-site operational role (minimum 5 years), using commercial acumen to benefit customers and effectively influence remote teams. Demonstrated success in exceeding sales targets, optimising P&L, or scaling multi-site operations.
- Brilliant communication: A motivational communicator and attentive listener, who inspires customers, stakeholders, and store teams to share your vision and achieve priorities, building lasting relationships.
- Strategic thinking: A visionary capable of identifying and driving strategic change, using an analytical approach to develop plans that deliver competitive advantage. Experience in market analysis, business model innovation, or leading strategic projects.
- Customer champion: Act as the customer's advocate, gaining their trust, deeply understanding their needs, and effectively using their feedback to shape winning strategies.
- Exceptional relationship building: Build strategic relationships internally and externally to influence change, leverage business opportunities, and meet team and customer needs.
- Resilient leadership: Stay positive under pressure, adapting effectively to changing priorities. As a coach and mentor, inspire trust and guide teams through challenges.
- Effective action: Be an active decision-maker, translating complex strategies into meaningful, commercially smart plans to maximise opportunities.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 5 years of proven commercial leadership in a multi-site operational role, with a track record of improving performance and driving profit.
- Strong customer, colleague, and stakeholder-facing abilities with excellent communication skills.
- Experience in leading strategic change and managing large-scale transformation initiatives.
