Editorial Director, Pavilion

Join HarperCollins Publishers as the Editorial Director for Pavilion, an imprint specialising in illustrated full‑colour non‑fiction across food & drink, craft & lifestyle, gift and popular culture.

Responsibilities

  • Commission, edit and publish titles profitably for the Pavilion list
  • Read agent submissions promptly and maintain strong relationships with agents and authors
  • Own a stable of authors, providing regular updates on publishing strategy, campaign, sell‑in and sell‑out
  • Work closely with the production team and desk editors to keep titles on critical path
  • Brief jackets and liaise with designers, seeing covers through from start to finish
  • Copywrite and check sales/marketing material (catalogues, presenters, etc.)
  • Direct metadata and AI content for individual authors, ensuring alignment with emerging market trends and critical path timelines
  • Create deal memos and ensure contracts are completed for each acquisition
  • Delegate effectively when required, supporting junior staff growth and development

Publicity & Marketing

  • Work closely with Publicity & Marketing teams to maximise exposure for authors and titles, according to an agreed priority list
  • Coordinate author events and launches when necessary
  • Attend launches and festivals as required

Skills Required

  • Entrepreneurial publishing talent and commercial awareness
  • Excellent author/agent/talent manager relationships
  • Strategic list building skills
  • Strong people management and team‑player capabilities
  • Global thinker, able to extend beyond the book to digital, international and audio sales
  • Excellent communication and writing skills (presentations, catalogue, cover copy)
  • Proven editorial skills, including four‑colour illustrated publishing
  • Detail‑orientated and cost‑aware
  • Computer skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, InDesign
