Editorial Director, Pavilion
Join HarperCollins Publishers as the Editorial Director for Pavilion, an imprint specialising in illustrated full‑colour non‑fiction across food & drink, craft & lifestyle, gift and popular culture.
Responsibilities
- Commission, edit and publish titles profitably for the Pavilion list
- Read agent submissions promptly and maintain strong relationships with agents and authors
- Own a stable of authors, providing regular updates on publishing strategy, campaign, sell‑in and sell‑out
- Work closely with the production team and desk editors to keep titles on critical path
- Brief jackets and liaise with designers, seeing covers through from start to finish
- Copywrite and check sales/marketing material (catalogues, presenters, etc.)
- Direct metadata and AI content for individual authors, ensuring alignment with emerging market trends and critical path timelines
- Create deal memos and ensure contracts are completed for each acquisition
- Delegate effectively when required, supporting junior staff growth and development
Publicity & Marketing
- Work closely with Publicity & Marketing teams to maximise exposure for authors and titles, according to an agreed priority list
- Coordinate author events and launches when necessary
- Attend launches and festivals as required
Skills Required
- Entrepreneurial publishing talent and commercial awareness
- Excellent author/agent/talent manager relationships
- Strategic list building skills
- Strong people management and team‑player capabilities
- Global thinker, able to extend beyond the book to digital, international and audio sales
- Excellent communication and writing skills (presentations, catalogue, cover copy)
- Proven editorial skills, including four‑colour illustrated publishing
- Detail‑orientated and cost‑aware
- Computer skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, InDesign
