Background on the Position

The role resides within the Non-Financial Risk Department with primary responsibility for Business Disruption and Resilience Compliance and Risk Management (BDR NFR) and Third Party risk coverage for the EMEA region. The role reports to the Global Head of Third Party and BDR NFR with local reporting to the EMEA Head of Operational Risk Management. The individual will partner with Firm leadership and regional heads of Third Party and BDR to set standards and implement the global framework locally.

The role aims to drive evolution and transparency of the frameworks managing BDR risk and regulatory compliance, support adoption of industry-leading practices and technologies, and introduce new controls and processes to bolster the existing frameworks. It will drive risk management and compliance activities, including regulatory interpretation and rule mapping, risk metrics, deep dives and analyses, concentration and risk assessments, and oversight of these risks across the Firm's business units and support functions.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage BDR and third party risk and regulatory identification, measurement, and escalation in support of senior EMEA and firm leadership
  • Help adopt Firmwide risk appetite and tolerances for losses and incidents caused by the Firm's use of third parties or through business disruption involving Firm assets; monitor and report performance against established tolerance levels
  • Provide regional modifications to Firm framework considering local regulatory and senior management expectations
  • Contribute to regulatory compliance mapping against policies and procedures, acting as regional subject matter expert and maintain change management process for new and emerging regulations
  • Oversee first line outsourcing program and advise and challenge regulatory compliance
  • Develop regional presentations for executive management, senior risk managers and regulators, including reporting to boards and risk committees
  • Lead reviews and challenge other reviews of material operational risk events and analyses of thematic operational risks stemming from third parties or BDR
  • Collaborate with 2LOD partners to establish metrics and analytical tools to support risk measurement
  • Lead and manage scenario analyses for significant and emerging risks
  • Oversee risk assessments with critical analysis and monitor data to identify heightened risk and develop remediation requirements
  • Work closely with second line regional and firm counterparts and leads of other risk areas to align strategic risk management initiatives
  • Partner with first line programs and Business Units to develop a perspective on BDR and third party risks and evolving regulatory expectations
  • Collaborate in a high performing global team responsible for identifying, assessing, reporting, and capturing risk information
  • Build relationships across divisions and control groups

Experience Required

  • An undergraduate degree (B.A., B.S., or equivalent) required
  • Ten or more years of relevant Financial Services risk management experience; exposure to sourcing/procurement, supply chain risk management preferable
  • Solid understanding of third party and BDR related regulations and industry frameworks, especially relating to operational risk management
  • Strong knowledge of business disruption controls, including continuity planning, system and data recovery
  • Strong risk, process, and control validation and/or assessment skills; prior role within consulting, second line or internal audit covering risk processes is desirable
  • Comparable experience in supply chain or BDR risk management within non-Financial Services will be considered (e.g., aviation, automotive, e-commerce, government, manufacturing)
  • Familiarity with relevant Banking, Financial Holding Company and securities regulations
  • Ability to work on challenging assignments in a dynamic environment; synthesize information and reach logical conclusions
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize competing responsibilities, work under pressure, meet deadlines, and build strong relationships
  • Ability to work in a team environment and coordinate with many stakeholders
  • Proven ability to anticipate and identify risks and implement effective mitigations
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Solid understanding of technology-related regulations and industry frameworks related to operational risk management
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; ability to present ideas concisely and persuasively to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
