OverviewPosition: Funeral DirectorLocation: Oliver and James Funeral Directors, AbingdonJob Type: 38.33 Hours per weekSalary: £29,644 per annumWe’re looking for an experienced and compassionate Funeral Director to oversee funeral operations and support families through one of life’s most challenging moments. As a representative of both the local brand and the wider Dignity Group, you’ll help engage with the local community and build trusted relationships.The RoleAs a Funeral Director, you’ll lead on the day of the funeral, coordinating teams and managing all aspects of service delivery. You will guide families, lead colleagues, and represent Dignity’s values within your community. You’ll help maintain our trusted presence in the local area as a representative of your branch and the wider Dignity Group.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and conduct funeral services in a dignified, respectful, and professional mannerSupport families with empathy and guidance throughout the funeral processCoordinate with arrangers, operatives, ministers/celebrants, and venues to ensure smooth execution of servicesEnsure funeral vehicles, staff, and ceremonial elements are prepared and meet required standardsOversee funeral logistics on the day, including timings, team direction, and venue setupAssist with coffin preparation, handling of the deceased, and chapel duties where requiredProvide leadership and mentoring to less experienced team membersSupport local community engagement and promotion of the brand you representUphold health and safety, compliance, and professional standards at all timesAbout YouWe’re Looking For Someone WhoExperienced in funeral service operations and conducting funeralsDemonstrates excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skillsCalm under pressure with a respectful, compassionate approach to servicePhysically capable of manual handling tasks, including coffin bearingComfortable with direct contact with the deceased in varying circumstancesHolds a Full UK Driving Licence (essential)Willing to work flexibly, including weekends and on-call duties as requiredWhat We OfferA meaningful role supporting families when they need it mostFull training and development, including Funeral Plan ConsultancyUniform and all necessary equipment provided30 - 33 days annual leave, inclusive of bank holidaysCompany pension, employee assistance programme, and life assuranceWe’d love to hear from you if you’re ready to join a compassionate team dedicated to delivering the highest standards of care.Next StepsIf this sounds like the next step in your career, click the apply button.
