We are pleased to open applications for a Hospital Director at the Linnaeus and Mars Veterinary Health owned DWR Veterinary Hospital. This is a key leadership, strategic and operational position responsible for all aspects of performance of the Referral Hospital business, leading and line managing the Hospital SLT, and working with the Clinical Director, business partners and other stakeholders. You will report to the Operations Director for London and the Southeast and take responsibility for continued delivery and growth in performance of DWR.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking and highly motivated team at a 55,000 sq ft hospital with state-of-the-art facilities. The hospital is based in Cambridgeshire and offers easy access to London, Cambridge and the Suffolk countryside.
Main purpose & goals
- Drive excellence of clinical quality within DWR
- Delivery of the Linnaeus strategy, annual business plan and budget for your Referral Hospital
- Provide inspiration and motivational leadership for your Hospital team, coaching and developing your SLT direct reports
- Drive engagement across teams, actively promoting wellbeing, equality, diversity and inclusion
- Deliver and contribute to strategic initiatives to drive clinical quality, commercial growth and sustainability goals
- Promote collaborative, efficient ways of working between functional pillars of the Referral Hospital
- Act as an ambassador for Mars Veterinary Health, Linnaeus, your Referral Hospital and the veterinary industry
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver hospital strategy, business performance and P&L
- Provide hands-on leadership, development and coaching of the Hospital SLT and line management of the Clinical Director, Head of Nursing Services, Operations Manager, HR Manager, and BRM
- Ensure delivery of high-quality clinical services through involvement of clinical and non-clinical teams and promote clinical research
- Deliver service elements within the operating plan with a clear, structured, commercially focused approach
- Maintain budget-aligned performance and operational efficiency
- Define and monitor KPIs to inform decision making and future growth
- Support a patient- and client-centric approach, aiming to improve the experience for patients and clients
- Collaborate with Clinical Director and Head of Nursing Services to maintain robust clinical framework and improve outcomes
- Work with HR to implement a robust people plan addressing engagement, talent management, retention and wellbeing
- Coordinate with Marketing and BRM to promote referrals and ensure a robust referral process and market-leading customer service
- Share best practices with peers and manage internal operational relationships
- Oversee Health & Safety, property and hospital maintenance through the Ops and Facilities teams
- Promote positive wellbeing and a healthy workplace culture
- Lead from the front and demonstrate Linnaeus and Mars values
- Participate in periodic business performance reporting to the Linnaeus Executive
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience leading and developing successful teams in a multi-disciplinary, multi-functional setting
- Experience across finance, marketing, HR, client experience, reception, facilities, and business relationship management
- Full P&L accountability to drive change and performance with a people- and customer-centric approach
- Experience in B2B and B2C service delivery
- Ability to analyse and interpret financial and operational information
- Can-do attitude with strong teamwork ethos
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills with problem-solving capability
- Veterinary or healthcare experience; marketing and/or client service experience; business relationship management experience
- Strong commercial acumen with prior P&L management
- Understanding of working in a regulated healthcare profession
- Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and risk assessment/root cause analysis
- Degree level education or equivalent; level 5+ business/management qualification preferred
- Excellent communication with associates at all levels; strong influencer and inspirational skills
- Ability to work under pressure, calm under any situation, and strong analytical/reporting skills
- Effective time and priority management and team leadership
- Collaborative with internal and external stakeholders; resilient with good self-management
