The Opportunity

Stantec are recruiting for a MEP Director to be based in either our Leeds or Newcastle office. As the MEP Director, this role involves the three core aspects of project delivery: technical excellence, management, and business development.

Reporting into the Regional Director, you will be accountable for the delivery and technical excellence of MEP projects located in Leeds and Newcastle, via our already strong, settled and growing MEP team. Your key responsibility, and metric for success, will be business development and sustainable growth, with a particular focus on the Yorkshire and Teesside markets.

This role is ideal for an ambitious and strategic leader wanting to further their career within an organisation focused on winning the right work types to promote organic growth. For the right person, there is the potential to widen the role to become the office Principal for the Leeds office, delivering a multi‑discipline offering to our clients.

Key Outcomes/Accountabilities

  • Develop market pipeline and new opportunities with a contribution to work winning to secure approximately £1m of new work per annum through a combination of new orders, change control and cross‑selling other Stantec disciplines into existing projects.
  • Maintain technical competence of the team.
  • Achieve project profitability in line with company targets.
  • Deliver high‑standard deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development

  • Grow and develop the Leeds MEP team’s work‑winning efforts, maintaining a sustainable pipeline through project delivery excellence, strategic client management, networking and industry knowledge.
  • Oversee project bids, tenders and interviews, ensuring proposals are competitive and meet client requirements.
  • Drive project wins by identifying added value or efficiencies in client briefs.
  • Contribute to business planning, including financial budgeting, forecasting and strategic direction.
  • Represent the business at industry events and networking opportunities.
  • Enhance the Stantec brand in the region.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to uncover cross‑selling opportunities.

Management

  • Grow and develop a team of MEP engineers and technicians, setting clear expectations and ensuring successful project delivery across the business.
  • Identify and support recruitment to expand the team for current and future project demands.
  • Input to resource planning, change control and quality assurance across all projects.
  • Improve team performance through regular appraisals, training and guidance.
  • Ensure projects remain within budget, recover fees timely and resolve any financial issues quickly.
  • Resolve any client issues that arise during the project lifecycle.

Project Delivery

  • Lead the delivery of MEP and multi‑discipline engineering projects, ensuring design is delivered on time, to specification, and in line with quality assurance and commercial governance procedures.
  • Foster design innovation and collaboration within the team.
  • Maintain a high‑level overview of projects, meeting client expectations and health & safety standards.
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery and troubleshooting.
  • Implement project contracts, ensuring all agreements are adhered to and issues are resolved promptly.
  • Contribute to training and process improvements.

About You

Ideally you will have a relevant mechanical or electrical engineering qualification at HNC, HND, Bachelors or Master’s level and be a chartered engineer or working towards membership with a relevant institution.

You will be an experienced MEP Professional with a strong drive for work winning and business development, strong commercial awareness and a passion for client service. You will have experience in delivering large‑scale, multidisciplinary building services projects. You will have a collaborative mindset, capable of inspiring teams and engaging stakeholders and a strong understanding of contracts, fee management and change control processes.
