The Team:

The Nursing Director Critical Care Services is a senior leadership position within the Launceston General Hospital Department of Medicine.

The Role:

Provide effective leadership and management of nursing staff and services. Within Critical Care Services at the Launceston General Hospital (LGH), in consultation with the Director – Department of Medicine (DoM). Lead patient care in an inter-professional environment to achieve the defined objectives of Critical Care Stream within the DoM. The Nursing Director - Critical Care will have a collaborative working relationship with the Nursing Director Acute Medicine and Nursing Director Sub Acute and Ambulatory Services. This Collaborative relationship will ensure the operational plans of each DoM stream are aligned. The Nursing Director - Critical Care reports to the Executive Director Clinical Operations and Performance.

Responsibilities:

  • In conjunction with the Executive Director of Operations and Performance provide leadership and support on accreditation, patient flow.
  • Direct the operational activities of designated clinical services consistent with Hospitals North objectives and provide effective leadership, coordination and direction for the management of the human, financial and material resources to achieve these objectives.
  • Assist in the development and application of clinical management policies, protocols and guidelines that will enable the evaluation of services against best practice standards.
  • Provide leadership and direction in the areas of research/education, continuous quality improvement and innovative redesign.
  • Manage clinical and corporate risk within the established framework whilst ensuring a safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Support Nursing Unit Managers, Nurse Practitioners and Nurse Educators to facilitate a range of initiatives to enhance the quality of patient care in all areas of responsibility.

Details of appointment

Fixed term, full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible until 1 February 2026. Hours are negotiable with the successful applicant. Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar vacancies.

Salary and benefits

Salary: $159,884 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse
