Overview

Operations & Commercial Director, Core Banking London

We're on a mission to make money work for everyone. We're waving goodbye to the complicated and confusing ways of traditional banking. With our hot coral cards and get-paid-early feature, combined with financial education on social media and our award winning customer service, we have a long history of creating magical moments for our customers. We're not about selling products - we want to solve problems and change lives through Monzo.

We're looking to hire an Operations and Commercial Director to join our Core Banking collective. Core Banking is responsible for how our 12 million personal customers experience Monzo every day with their accounts: current accounts, joint accounts and U16s. This includes creating compelling value propositions for different audiences, the day-to-day money management experience (including features like Trends, Salary Sorter, Bills Pots, and more) and other value propositions like Cash back Rewards. The collective is also responsible for our Subscriptions products, which are paid upgrades that unlock extra benefits and functionality.

We're looking for an experienced, commercially-minded operator to help us gear up for our next phase of growth (from 12 million to 20+ million customers). This is a high-impact leadership role with significant ownership and the opportunity to drive real change.

Responsibilities

  • Owning the planning process for Core Banking: Drive the business planning, collective goals, half-yearly planning, including budget and headcount, and goal setting cycles.
  • Tracking our performance: Monitor the effectiveness of initiatives, working with finance and data partners to review product and commercial data and analyses, and adapt strategies to stay on track.
  • Operationalising our strategy and priorities: Partner with operations, fincrime/fraud, marketing, risk and compliance, and product teams with interdependencies across Core Banking and wider Monzo.
  • Ensuring rigorous commercial processes/outcomes: Work with the GM and leaders to ensure a robust commercial strategy and processes that support the right outcomes.
  • Governance and risk management: Collaborate with first line partners to enable product squads while evaluating and managing risks and controls; ensure processes scale safely for Monzo and customers.
  • Lead a team of product operations specialists: Lead a small but mighty team with growth opportunities.
  • Strategic and collaborative mindset: Think big-picture and break it into actionable steps to operationalise quickly; connect dots across the business and foster collaboration.
  • Operational experience and impact: Proven experience in scaling a consumer business with P&L responsibility, larger teams, and significant impact over multiple years; experience leading and scaling teams.
  • Operational excellence and attention to detail: Manage multiple processes in parallel while maintaining high quality; data-oriented with risk awareness.
  • Communication and commercial acumen: Effective communicator for Product, Operations, and Senior Leaders; strong data literacy with a track record of analyzing commercial trends and insights.
  • Ownership and proactive mindset: Demonstrate ownership, hustle, and ability to balance conflicting priorities among stakeholders.
