The Vacancy

Role Purpose

As a P&I Claims Director or Senior Claims Executive, you will handle and manage high-volume and complex P&I claims, ensuring efficient resolution in line with policies. You will foster strong relationships with Members and brokers, mentor colleagues, and collaborate with other functions such as FD&D, Underwriting, and Loss Prevention. You will also support business development and contribute to the improvement of claims handling processes. A key aspect of the role is building a high-performing, inclusive team, while adhering to company policies and demonstrating professionalism.

What will you be doing?

Key responsibilities will include:

• Handle and manage high-volume and complex P&I claims, ensuring efficient and cost-effective resolution in line with policies and procedures.
• Assist with Member enquiries related to current geopolitical and industry issues.
• Appoint and manage third-party service providers such as lawyers, surveyors, consultants, and correspondents.
• Build strong relationships with Members and brokers, delivering excellent service.
• Mentor, supervise, and manage colleagues in the P&I Claims function, as directed by the Head of P&I Claims.
• Collaborate with FD&D, Underwriting, and Loss Prevention teams on claims handling, risk identification, and relationship management.
• Prepare agendas, reports, and update the Sector on significant developments as requested.
• Assist with audits, peer reviews, and the improvement of claims handling and operational processes.
• Support business development activities and networking with Members and customers alongside the Head of P&I Claims.
• Help create a high-performing, inclusive team environment, ensuring proper workload management and colleague wellbeing.
• Adhere to company policies and procedures, demonstrating professionalism and contributing to claims initiatives and expertise groups.

About you

Skills/Qualifications/Experience

• Marine or Law Degree (preferably shipping-related Law) OR seagoing experience OR experience handling claims in a P&I club or shipping company, including within Operations or Commercial departments.
• Understanding of P&I claims and the P&I insurance industry.
• Knowledge of P&I Rules and Claims Department Procedures.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships.
• Ability to handle cases in a controlled, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
• Availability outside of hours to ensure high service levels.
• Willingness to undertake IG PANDIQ exams or review relevant material.
• Willingness to travel.
