Join to apply for the Pre Construction Director role at Wates Group. The vacancy is for an established Pre-Construction Director to join our Advanced Manufacturing Construction team on a national basis with a hub based in our Sunderland office.

As a Senior Business Lead in Wates Construction, this role supports shaping, growing and developing the pre-construction strategy with the support of the leadership team. It is a work-winning pre-construction specialist role that participates in the Wates Pre-Construction Transformation Programme from pre-bid through to the second-stage conversion. The role aligns with the business plan and governance to enable the business unit to achieve sales budget and supports business development activity to grow the future pipeline and engage in external networking. This is a pivotal role to drive success through well-executed bids and strategic direction.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and shape the pre-construction strategy in alignment with the business plan
  • Drive work-winning activity from pre-bid through to second-stage conversion
  • Ensure governance and process compliance to enable sales budget achievement
  • Support business development to grow the pipeline and participate in external networking
  • Engage and motivate teams to deliver excellently executed, considered bids
  • Build excellent value-added customer relationships and manage stakeholders across the wider group and framework teams
  • Lead by example, upskill the team, and drive continuous improvement in performance
  • Demonstrate resilience and adaptability to meet business and customer needs
  • Win bids on projects typically in the 50–500m range
  • Maintain a portfolio evidencing successful bids and growing sales
  • Deliver compelling, well-structured presentations

Requirements

  • Proven ability to establish and maintain strong, value-added customer relationships
  • Exceptional stakeholder management across the group and framework teams
  • Passion for work winning and strong strategic planning capabilities
  • Strategic approach from work winning through to PCSA (Pre-Construction Service Agreement) conversion
  • Experience leading and upskilling teams, with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Resilience and adaptability to changing business and customer needs
  • Experience in winning bids on sizeable projects (typically 50–500m)
