Preconstruction Director

My client are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Preconstruction Director to lead the estimating and bid management functions for complex, large-scale construction projects across mission-critical industries including data centres, advanced manufacturing, and pharmaceutical facilities.The ideal candidate will bring deep technical knowledge, a proven track record in managing multidisciplinary estimating teams, and the ability to build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, clients, and trade partners.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and oversee all preconstruction estimating activities from concept through GMP (Guaranteed Maximum Price) or final bid submission.Develop and maintain accurate cost models and benchmarks for complex industrial projects.Provide value engineering recommendations and constructability reviews during the design process.Analyze drawings, specifications, and other documents to prepare comprehensive quantity take-offs and cost estimates.Bid ManagementDirect the bid process for design-bid-build and design-build projects, including RFP/RFQ development, bid packaging, subcontractor engagement, and scope alignment.Evaluate subcontractor qualifications, scope coverage, and pricing to ensure risk-managed, competitive proposals.Manage bid-day procedures and provide clear and concise executive summaries and bid recommendations.Client & Stakeholder EngagementAct as the primary preconstruction point of contact for clients, consultants, and key project stakeholders.Collaborate with design teams, operations, and procurement departments to align project goals with cost and schedule targets.Present budgets, bids, and cost updates in client and internal meetings.Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing preconstruction team, including estimators, bid managers, and support staff.Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.Implement and improve estimating systems, databases, and workflows to drive consistency and efficiency.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field; advanced degree preferred.10+ years of progressive experience in preconstruction, estimating, or bid management within the industrial construction sector.Demonstrated success delivering large-scale construction projects (£100M+) in sectors such as data centres, manufacturing plants, and pharmaceutical/life sciences facilities.Deep understanding of MEP systems, cleanroom environments, and mission-critical infrastructure.Expertise in industry-standard estimating software (e.g., WinEst, Sage Estimating, OST, Bluebeam) and project management tools.Strong analytical, negotiation, and presentation skills.Ability to manage multiple pursuits and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.What We OfferCompetitive compensation package including performance bonuses, benefits, and growth opportunities.Salary - Up to £120,000 per annum26 days annual leaveA host of other benefits #J-18808-Ljbffr
