OverviewThread finds and tells stories from inside the cracks appearing all over the world – important stories with global implications, often involving sensitive contributors and material. We are looking for an experienced Producer/Director for an ambitious feature documentary about modern military history and medicine. The film explores the remarkable innovations that redefined battlefield medicine and transformed emergency care worldwide.The role requires close collaboration with the Executive Producer, Head of Production and wider production team from development through delivery. You’ll be responsible for shaping the editorial vision, directing shoots, and ensuring the highest standards of storytelling and compliance throughout. This is an exceptional opportunity for a creative filmmaker with strong editorial instincts, visual flair, and a proven ability to handle sensitive material with care and integrity.ResponsibilitiesShape the editorial vision and direct shoots for a feature documentary about modern military history and medicine.Collaborate with the Executive Producer, Head of Production and wider production team from development through delivery.Lead storytelling through interview, archive and graphics-led approaches; ensure journalistic depth, emotional breadth and cinematic quality.Lead a small, agile production team through production and post-production, keeping to deadlines and high standards.Build and maintain trust with contributors, particularly in sensitive or high-stakes environments.Ensure compliance and best-practice on all aspects of production.Requirements / QualificationsStrong track record as a Producer/Director in documentary or factual fields.Experience crafting interview and archive-led retrospective films, with observational, character-driven storytelling.Experience with archive, interview, and graphics-led storytelling.Confident leading shoots in the UK and abroad.Excellent storytelling instincts and editorial judgement.High level of organisation, proactivity and collaboration; ability to lead a small team through production and post.Ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining creative excellence.Nice to haveExperience directing or producing documentaries related to history, conflict, or medicine.Understanding of post-production workflows and collaboration in edit.Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro and After Effects).Experience working with military or medical subject matter.Role detailsReports to: the Executive Producer and Head of Production.Location & Working Arrangements: Hybrid role with remote work and on-location filming as required.Schedule: 22 weeks total, including a 9-week edit and two production breaks.
