The Role

We are looking for an experienced risk and internal control professional to join the Risk Consulting practice, based in London, focusing on the Public & Social Sector. The role is senior and involves high levels of collaboration across Forvis Mazars Advisory & Consulting service lines. For the right person, there is an exciting opportunity to progress to a Partner role in the future.

In the UK, the Public and Social Sector has an income of approximately £40 million per annum and comprises around 300 staff and partners. This sector is a major market for the firm, with public interest at the heart of service provision.

Within this practice, the Risk Consulting team provides Internal Audit, Internal Controls, Risk Advisory, External Quality Assessments, and other independent advice and assurance to clients across public, not-for-profit, and private sector organisations (including FTSE350). Our clients span Central Government, Local Government, Education, Charities and Social Housing.

Your Experience

We are seeking an experienced risk and internal control professional with a proven track record in developing, delivering, and growing these services within a professional services firm. Experience as a Chief Audit Executive with sector experience is welcome. The successful candidate will lead the team, bring deep sector knowledge, and help grow our offering as part of a wider Consulting services suite, delivering an unparalleled client experience and building deep, long-term relationships both internally and externally.

The following areas are envisaged as central to the role:

Professional responsibilities

• Business development and strategy: lead growth of the Public & Social Sector and collaborate with other Forvis Mazars areas to build on existing relationships.
• Act as the sector point of contact within Forvis Mazars UK.
• Client development: broaden relationships to drive repeat business and opportunities across the firm.

Engagement leadership

• Oversee and manage a Risk Consulting portfolio/engagements; act as a senior day-to-day point of contact for clients.
• Deliver work to agreed quality standards.
• Maintain positive client relationships.
• Provide ongoing guidance to team members.

Team leadership

• Guide and develop the team; include coaching and people-manager responsibilities; oversee career development.

Key Requirements

• Significant experience in the Public & Social Sector.
• Technical strength in Internal Audit, including application of Global Internal Audit Standards alongside sector-specific codes/practices.
• Strategic thinking and ability to adapt to evolving technology.
• Ability to develop and supervise team members.
• Experience in multiple engagements, with a track record of building enduring client relationships and effective people management.
• Expertise in practice management.
• Self-motivated, ambitious, and hard-working with a strong client-service orientation and teamwork ethos.
