Role overview
The Senior Director Construction will play a vital leadership role in delivering GreenScale’s data centre developments across Europe. Reporting to the VP Development Delivery, this position is responsible for the execution of construction activities across multiple projects, ensuring successful delivery from detailed design through commissioning and handover (RIBA Stages 4–6).
This role requires a hands-on, commercially minded leader who can balance strategic oversight with operational excellence, ensuring safety, quality, and timeliness across construction programmes. The successful candidate will lead teams, manage stakeholders, and promote innovative practices to ensure consistent, high-quality project execution.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership and Construction Planning
Develop and implement tactical construction strategies aligned with GreenScale’s delivery goals. Provide strategic input to improve processes, manage risk, and drive innovation across all construction programmes.
Project Execution and Technical Delivery (RIBA Stages 4–6)
Lead the delivery of projects from detailed design through handover, including compliance with permitting requirements, construction readiness, build execution, commissioning, and validation. Oversee project reviews, construction methodologies, resource planning, and execution milestones.
Design Compliance and Quality Management
Ensure alignment with design intent, technical standards, and regulatory requirements. Manage the resolution of critical issues, design clarifications, and changes during construction.
Stakeholder and Interface Coordination
Act as the central point of contact between internal teams and external contractors. Ensure smooth transitions from pre-construction and facilitate collaborative working across departments and delivery partners.
Team Leadership and Performance Management
Mentor and manage Project Directors and Construction Managers. Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and performance. Conduct regular reviews, implement training plans, and drive succession strategies.
Vendor and Contractor Oversight
Engage with general contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors to ensure quality and compliance. Support procurement planning and contract oversight alongside relevant internal teams.
Cost, Schedule, and Risk Control
Monitor KPIs, cost parameters, and risk registers. Lead progress reviews and cost control measures to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery across multiple sites.
Commissioning and Handover
Lead commissioning and final handover activities. Validate system performance and ensure operational readiness in line with GreenScale standards.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement
Champion the adoption of digital tools and construction technologies. Stay current with industry trends and promote innovations that improve construction quality, speed, and sustainability.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
- Extensive experience managing data centre or mission-critical construction programmes across multiple jurisdictions
- In-depth knowledge of RIBA Stages 4–6, permitting, commissioning, and handover processes
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage and motivate multi-site teams
- Proven success in managing contractors, design compliance, safety protocols, and quality assurance
- Excellent cross-functional coordination and stakeholder engagement abilities
- Commercial acumen and experience with cost control, procurement, and contract negotiations
- Proficiency in project management platforms and construction planning tools
- · Effective communicator with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset
