About the Team:
Reports to: Head of Operations, dotted line to Head of Data Products (or vice versa). Partners day-to-day with LOB product & engineering leaders.
Convert business priorities into clear team focus and predictable delivery. Shape the operating norms—lightweight, useful, and adopted because they help teams. Build durable capability (people, practices, and simple services) that shortens the path from idea to impact without heavy process. Operate as a trusted peer to senior leaders; create momentum with a few visible wins, then scale through lieutenants and Group PMO.
How You’ll Make an Impact:
- Strategy → team focus: Turn agreed priorities into concise goals and quarterly focus for teams. Make the connection to customer and commercial outcomes explicit and practical.
- Lifecycle management (pacing & readiness): Set planning horizons teams can rely on—strategy decisions closed within a quarter; discovery/design ready to start build in the next quarter; builds typically complete in 3–6 months. Promote early feasibility (spikes, acceptance criteria, skills/capacity checks) so condensed builds are achievable.
- Prioritisation & capacity: Shape quarterly focus with senior product leaders; reduce WIP; direct capacity to the highest-value outcomes. Normalise pausing or closing work when certainty or capacity is insufficient.
- Decision clarity: Embed simple artifacts (e.g., concise decision notes; slim build-readiness checks) so options, trade-offs, and ownership are crisp—without turning documentation into homework.
- Operating rhythm: Keep a simple rhythm of quarterly planning and brief monthly reviews. Support gradual, team-owned OKRs so everyday choices steer to outcomes; reviews inform resourcing and learning—no theater.
- Portfolio visibility: Maintain a single, neutral view of initiatives, dependencies, and capacity (delivered with Group PMO). Use it to support timely continue/pivot/close decisions.
- Capability & leverage: Build a small senior team (Practices & Coaching, Tooling & Analytics, Portfolio Visibility). Lead by example where it unblocks progress, then scale through playbooks, coaching, and PM rotations.
- Tooling that serves decisions: Keep JIRA and product analytics schemas light and comparable; ensure reporting serves leaders and teams, not ceremony.
- Selective executive sponsorship: For a few pivotal initiatives, secure top-cover to accelerate decisions and commitments. Use sparingly and purposefully.
- Modern accelerators: Pilot AI-assisted and other build accelerators where they materially compress discovery or reduce delivery overhead.
You May be a Good Fit if:
- 15-20 years in product operations / product management / delivery leadership across multi-team, multi-site environments.
- Track record of improving time-to-market via clear objectives, disciplined lifecycle pacing, and focused resourcing at portfolio scale.
- Executive presence and diplomacy; credible peer to MDs and senior product leaders.
- Deep, pragmatic command of agile/lean practices, outcome-based planning (incl. OKRs), and product analytics; known for adapting methods to context.
- Experience building senior lieutenants, establishing playbooks/services, and leveraging a Group PMO or equivalent.
- (Preferred) B2B data, financial services, or enterprise platforms.
What Would Make You Successful:
- Strategy decisions and discovery packages routinely land within the intended quarterly cadence; most builds complete in 3–6 months.
- Teams carry fewer simultaneous priorities; capacity is visibly concentrated on top outcomes.
- Team-owned OKRs guide planning and course-correction; quarterly reviews are concise, useful, and inform resourcing.
- A light, trusted portfolio view (with Group PMO) supports confident continue/pivot/close calls.
- Practices persist via lieutenants and playbooks; improvements don’t depend on constant senior intervention.
