Solicitor / Associate / Legal Director - Safety, Health and Environment (SHE)

Our national Regulatory Team specialises in advising individuals and organisations facing regulatory investigations related to health and safety, environmental and product-safety matters, including corporate manslaughter, gross negligence manslaughter, and breaches of regulatory law. We provide advice in relation to product safety, inquests and Public Inquiries, and support clients through regulatory processes.

We are expanding due to client and case demands and are looking for candidates with experience handling regulatory issues for clients including investigations and prosecutions by regulators such as the Police, HSE, Local Authorities, Fire Authorities, Environment Agency, CQC and others.

We are open to candidates with a range of relevant experience and are seeking to strengthen the SHE team nationally, with a focus on London, the Midlands or Northern England.

Role and responsibilities

• Work on a busy and varied caseload encompassing a range of contentious and non-contentious regulatory issues for a variety of clients.
• Act as a point of contact for clients, following client protocols, with knowledge commensurate with experience.
• Assist with business development, including preparation and delivery of pitches, presentations and training events.
• Demonstrate sound file management – compliance with DAC Beachcroft protocols, accurate billing and WIP management, file closures and management information.
• Take responsibility for quality control and benchmark compliance on own caseload, including timely management reporting and information.
• Maintain an understanding of other practice areas and an active internal network.
• Maintain and develop technical knowledge through training, reading appropriate publications and CPD requirements.

Who you are

• At least 10 years PQE with experience in regulatory and/or commercially focused environments, in private practice or elsewhere.
• Extensive experience advising on regulatory work including HSE/Police investigations, witness interviews, cautions, prosecutions, sentencing hearings and inquests; experience in environmental breaches, trading standards, product safety and fire safety would be beneficial.
• Experience of business development and building client relationships.
• Willingness to travel at short notice; driving licence essential.
• Excellent legal drafting, analytical and technical skills.
• Ability to exceed budgetary requirements in terms of time and fee income.
