Overview

Specialty Training Programme Director for Cardiothoracic Surgery within the South West School of Surgery. The role supports the Head of School for Surgery in leading the delivery of a wide range of educational functions aligned to the NHS England mandate and long-term workforce plan. The focus is on improving learner supervision, assessment and experience, engaging faculty, and ensuring effective educational outcomes now and in the future. This is a senior educator position appointed on a part-time secondment to NHS England, alongside existing employment with an NHS Trust in the South West geographical footprint.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support the delivery of educational functions aligned to the NHS England mandate and long-term workforce plan.
• Improve learner supervision, assessment, and learner experience across the region.
• Engage faculty and ensure effective educational outcomes.
• Collaborate with the Head of School for Surgery to provide strategic educational leadership in cardiothoracic training.
• Work as part of a multi-professional team to drive educational quality and outcomes.

• Experienced clinician with a thorough understanding of education and training across the region.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Able to work effectively as a member of a multi-professional team.

Contract and employment details

• Part-time secondment to NHS England until 31 October 2026.
