We are recruiting a Medical Director to join our team at Sulis on a part time contract. Sulis is committed to a clinically-led service to ensure, first and foremost, the safety of patients through good governance, high levels of efficiency and effectiveness and a focus on good clinical outcomes

As a wholly-owned subsidiary, all profits are reinvested in the NHS – the Medical Director shall be key to ensuring continued growth aligned with the needs of our community

Sulis has, as an Independent Sector site, contributed immensely to not only the needs of private patients in the Bath area, but to the wider NHS community:

• Growth of Choose and Book referrals over 4 years in all specialties;
• Reducing the waiting lists of multiple NHS Trusts and ICBs through proactive interaction and integration, especially RUH;
• Become an essential part of BSW’s Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) programme installing a 2nd NHS-dedicated MR scanner, replacement CT, new Xray facility, introduction of sleep, respiratory, cardiology and phlebotomy services and growth of endoscopy service, many of which are now 7-day facilities;
• Built and delivered the Sulis Orthopaedic Centre (SOC), a dedicated NHS service for RUH, SFT and GWH hospitals to ring-fence elective orthopaedic services for the region;
• Become the first site to deliver same-day arthroplasty services, in the Bath region;
• The only GIRFT-accredited Independent Sector site in the UK;
• JAG-accredited endoscopy service;
• Accreditation for ACSA (Anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation) due in November ’25, in conjunction with RUH

The Sulis Medical Director (MD) plays a pivotal role in Sulis Hospital’s Senior Management Team, supporting the delivery of Sulis Hospital’s strategic goals by providing leadership on the Clinical Strategy and all medical workforce issues, focusing on professional assurance, quality, clinical effectiveness and outcomes, leadership development, workforce planning and productivity. These will be used to align and engage medical staff in delivering efficient, high quality, safe and compassionate care to patients in all services.

Working alongside the Hospital Director, Head of Nursing and AHPs, Operational and Business Development, Finance, HR and Estates Leads, the Medical Director will be key to the service development of Sulis, the CDC and SOC

The role will also link closely across Bath, Swindon & Wiltshire Integrated Care Alliance (BSW ICA), BSW Group of Trusts (RUH, SFT and GWH), Sulis Orthopaedic Centre (SOC) and Sulis Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) to take forward the clinical strategy for the system.

The Sulis Medical Director will also support the RUH Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to improve medical staff engagement across the sites, alignment of best practice, as well as input into the creation of medical leadership development programmes.

Person Specification:

• Unblemished registration with GMC or other equivalent professional body
• A medical practitioner
• Post graduate medical qualifications
• Evidence of continued professional development
• Qualification in management, leadership, quality improvement
• Substantial clinical experience at consultant level
• Strong reputation as a clinician and clinical leader, with a proven track record of producing high quality results in the management and leadership of clinical services
• Experience of job planning, medical appraisal, and the management of performance concerns
• Active as a medical appraiser
• Experience as Case Investigator or Case Manager
• A thorough grasp of the NHS, Independent Sector, local and national health care strategies with demonstrated leadership at a senior level.
