Technical Director - Ecology role at AECOM. Join our Nature team in the UK & Ireland with hybrid working options in offices including Manchester, Leeds, Basingstoke, Birmingham, Newcastle, Glasgow, Cambridge, Nottingham, Bristol and Liverpool (other locations may be considered).

We are looking for a technical leader to shape and drive the ecology team within UK&I. You will provide in-depth ecological assessments and project management to ensure delivery on time, on budget, and to high standards. You will be part of the ecology leadership team in UK&I, with responsibilities for work winning, project delivery, and team mentorship.

In this role, you can support a variety of areas such as innovative survey techniques for species and habitats, data capture and reporting, Habitats Regulations Assessments, and leadership and coaching opportunities. Our environment offers internal and external training within a mentoring framework.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning and delivery of ecological inputs for internal and external clients
• Produce and technically review ecological assessments (e.g., Preliminary Ecological Appraisal; Protected Species Baseline Reports; Ecological Impact Assessments; Habitats Regulations Assessments; Biodiversity Net Gain calculations)
• Provide technical leadership to deliver proportionate and pragmatic ecological solutions
• Project manage the ecology input into large schemes
• Lead consultation and engagement with clients and key stakeholders (planning authorities, statutory bodies, public)
• Contribute to continued development of technical capabilities and embed innovation/research
• Lead production of bids and tenders for ecological services
• Mentor and support junior staff and peers

Qualifications

• Degree (or equivalent) in ecology or an associated subject
• Membership of an appropriate professional institution and working towards or obtained Chartered Ecologist or Chartered Environmentalist status
• Excellent knowledge of biodiversity legislation and policy, and reporting skills
• Experience in leading and managing biodiversity assessments for major planning applications and DCO submissions
• Experience in managing projects, budgets, stakeholder discussions, and bidding/tendering
• Experience of reviewing/verifying technical work and supporting wider team members
