OverviewTechnical Director Geochemist/Hydrogeochemist to join the UK & Ireland Mine Water Team as part of WSP Mining & Metals on a full-time basis, based in the UK or Ireland. This senior leadership role combines technical leadership, project direction, business development, and client relationship management. You will deliver geochemical water-rock interaction studies for the prediction, prevention, and management of metal leaching and acid rock drainage in mining projects, and direct and inform the project portfolio across local and international projects.What if you could shape a career as unique as you? At WSP, you can grow and do what matters to you, leveraging our global reach to work with diverse, talented teams.The Key ResponsibilitiesProvide technical expertise with our international team of geochemists and multidisciplinary colleagues on projects including permitting, baseline studies, engineering studies, operational support, and closure, primarily in mining but with opportunities in other industries.Collaborate across the Mining Team and the business to strategise and implement objectives.Project management including drafting proposals and cost estimates, client liaison, financial management and invoices, project closure, and client feedback with support from the project management team within the mining group.Lead, mentor, and support a team of scientists, engineers, and professionals in the Mine Water team to develop careers, technical capabilities, and commercial awareness.Participate in global corporate technical practice groups to elevate technical excellence, innovation, and visibility with clients.Engage in business development activities including proposals, marketing, and supporting participation in tradeshows and conferences.Support development and maintenance of client relationships to win new work through client interactions and team efforts.Business-related travel within the UK/Ireland and overseas as required by business and project needs.Model safety awareness in line with a health, safety, and wellbeing culture and adhere to WSP’s policies.Align actions and behaviours with WSP a0Equality Policy and Code of Conduct.What we look forEstablished reputation and history of work winning and repeat business.Demonstrated experience of technical leadership, collaboration, and delivery.Substantial and broad experience in mine water geochemistry.Commitment to internal and external client service.Proven track record in managing and contributing to large, multi-disciplinary projects.Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills for technical, business development, and strategy contexts.Advanced degree (MSc or Ph.D) or equivalent in geochemistry, hydrogeochemistry, applied or environmental geology/chemistry.Passion for innovation and self-education; ability to work on complex challenges and provide solutions for colleagues and clients.Knowledge of international geochemical guidelines and regulations.Ability to work effectively within a team environment.Professional registration or working toward it; commitment to Continuous Professional Development.Strong writing skills for technical reports and proposals; English proficiency required; second language (French or Spanish) valued.Don’t quite meet all the criteria?
