The successful candidate will undergo an integration period to acquaint themselves with team members in the UK, Ireland and beyond, while the team learns about the new member. Roles within the team vary as individuals shape their career around strengths and interests.Responsibilities: This is a leadership role with the UK and Ireland Mine Waste team and will comprise a combination of technical leadership, project direction, business development and client liaison. Main responsibilities include:Provision of technical expertise in mining waste and tailings, including management and direction of multi-disciplinary design teamsLead and input into the design and assessment of mine waste facilities including tailings facilities, water storage facilities, waste rock dumps and integrated waste facilities from concept design through detailed design to operational and closure phasesProject management including drafting proposals and cost estimates, client liaison, reporting and invoices, project closure and client feedback with support from the project management team within the mining groupSupport the development and maintenance of client relationships, through project-based client interaction or by supporting business development efforts of other senior staffDevelop a client base and actively seek out and win new workProvide input to team strategy developmentDisplay a ‘safety first’ attitude in line with an interdependent health, safety and wellbeing culture, promoting positive health, safety and wellbeing, raising safety issues through appropriate channels and adhering to WSP’s health, safety and wellbeing policy and proceduresProvide specialised technical input focused on tailings management facilities, heap leach facilities, water impoundments, waste rock dump design, soil mechanics, soil improvement methods, geosynthetic materials engineering and related civil engineering work for projects worldwideLead, mentor and work with a team of scientists, engineers and other professionals within the Mine Waste team to support career development, technical excellence and commercial awarenessParticipate in global corporate technical practice groups to elevate technical excellence and client visibilityEnsure actions and behaviours align with WSP's Equality Policy; adhere to the WSP Code of Conduct and raise concerns as appropriateRegularly familiarise with the Code of Conduct and its application to your roleWhat We Will Be Looking For You To DemonstrateDemonstrated experience of technical leadership, collaboration, and deliverySubstantial and broad experience in mine waste and tailingsCommitment to internal and external client serviceProven track record in delivering large, multi-disciplinary projects on time and on budgetExcellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills for technical, business development and strategy contextsDegree qualified in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering or engineering geology, with strong emphasis on soil mechanicsKnowledge of national and international design guidelines and regulationsMining and geotechnical experience related to mine waste disposal/facilitiesAbility to interpret and monitor results and use tools to monitor and design geotechnical structures and assist clients with operational requirementsAbility to manage and work effectively within a teamChartered professional with the relevant bodyWillingness to travel in the UK and internationally, and to remote environmentsDon’t quite meet all the criteria?
