Highways Associate / Technical Director


Elb Recruit is partnering with Roughan & O’Donovan (ROD), a leading consultancy in civil, structural, and environmental engineering, to recruit a Highways Associate/Technical Director for their Otley , West Yorkshire office.

Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and motivated professional to lead ROD UK’s Highways and Transportation team. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, manage projects, mentor staff, and drive business growth. This is a senior position reporting directly to the Managing Director of ROD UK and the board.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the transportation team, providing mentorship and technical guidance.
  • Oversee the design, delivery, and quality of highways and transportation projects.
  • Direct bidding processes and develop proposals for new work.
  • Collaborate with ROD’s wider Transportation Group, coordinating resources across Ireland and the UK.
  • Maintain excellent client relationships and represent ROD externally.
  • Contribute to strategic management and business development initiatives.


Required Skills and Experience:

  • Chartered Engineer with a relevant degree in civil/transportation engineering.
  • Strong technical expertise in highways, streets, and transportation project design.
  • Proven experience in bid management, tender writing, and commercial oversight.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with traffic network analysis is advantageous but not essential.
