Technical Director - Hydrogeology Lead role at WSP in the UK & Ireland.

What you will do

  • Lead the technical delivery of projects covering all aspects of water resources hydrogeology, groundwater modelling, groundwater flooding, monitoring and groundwater quality.
  • Project direction including financial and change control and quality assurance through checking and reviewing.
  • Mentor, develop and supervise junior colleagues with opportunities for formal people management. Work with the Technical Lead in SWMC to develop a programme of hydrogeology training.
  • Collaborate with the team and the current Hydrogeology and Groundwater Services Lead to develop and agree scopes of services.
  • Generate high quality bid proposals and develop innovative solutions to meet client needs.
  • Undertake and supervise the production of high quality client- and public-facing deliverables, with strong communication and the ability to present the visualization and interpretation of complex data.
  • Work collaboratively with other sectors/disciplines to deliver the hydrogeological aspects of a wide range of challenging projects, including collaboration with hydrogeologists in Ground & Water, EIA and Mining Teams.
  • Promote a safety-first attitude in line with WSP's health and safety policy and procedures.

What we are looking for

  • Groundwater and Water Resources modelling to support water resource estimation and management, as well as environmental impact assessment.
  • A strong understanding of UK hydrogeology and the regulatory framework of UK water management.
  • Strong project management and direction skills, with experience of delivering projects from start to finish; framework management is desirable.
  • Clear understanding of client needs, opportunities and challenges, with a track record of leading and winning work.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and influence at all levels, especially in the technical development of junior staff.
  • Strong commercial awareness with experience in identifying and developing business opportunities and preparing winning proposals.
  • Excellent report-writing, technical review, numerical and analytical skills, with attention to detail and problem-solving in hydrogeological/hydrological contexts.

Qualifications

  • MSc in Hydrogeology combined with a BSc in a related discipline (e.g., geology, geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, environmental science).
  • You will have gained, or be working towards chartership with a relevant professional body.
