OverviewAI Governance Director — Location: Hybrid, 3 days per week in our London office. The AI and Data Governance Director will lead the integrity and compliance of AI- and data-related solutions, ensuring privacy, legal, security and ethical considerations are applied throughout AI and data lifecycles and maintaining an accurate, auditable record of critical AI assets. The Director will collaborate with senior leaders from AI, Product Development, Data Engineering, Commercial and IT teams to embed governance frameworks into development processes and ensure due diligence is consistently applied. The role also involves leading a small team and liaising with internal stakeholders to maintain robust compliance practices.Function: Function Leader (Office of the General Counsel) — Country: United Kingdom — Office Location: London; Newcastle — Work Place type: HybridKey ResponsibilitiesGovernance & Compliance Leadership:Take accountability for AI and data governance frameworks, ensuring compliance with evolving global regulations, policies and standards.Ensure AI systems and data management processes involve appropriate oversight from Privacy, Security, Ethics and Legal teams, mitigating risk and ensuring operational integrity.Maintain a global AI inventory capturing critical attributes for risk and compliance, enforcing completion for all qualifying AI.Due Diligence & Assurance:Collaborate with AI, product, legal, security and privacy teams to complete assurance due diligence and inventory for all AI initiatives.Ensure relevant policies are followed, risks identified, and exceptions managed appropriately.Oversee ongoing assessment and improvement of AI risk controls against the NIST RMF.Stakeholder Management & Communication:Prepare and present management information packs for executive committees, ensuring key insights and compliance metrics are communicated effectively.Coordinate with Public Affairs to communicate our standards and practices to external stakeholders.Data Governance & Quality:Work with data engineering and IT teams to implement and maintain data governance practices, ensuring high-quality, reliable data for critical reporting, AI model training and data transformation.Apply data stewardship practices to new data initiatives, including metadata capture, quality controls and data privacy measures.Lifecycle Integration:Ensure AI and data governance standards are integrated into the development lifecycle, from design to deployment and ongoing monitoring.Define best practices for integrating compliance, security and ethics at every stage of AI and data product development.Team Leadership & Development:Deputise for the VP Data Governance as necessary.Lead and mentor a team responsible for governance and compliance integration and monitoring.Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and knowledge sharing across the team.Skills, Know-how & ExperienceWorking knowledge of data management concepts.In-depth understanding of data governance frameworks and extensive experience applying them to global organisations.Technical understanding of data architecture, infrastructure and data modelling.AI/ML lifecycle knowledge.Solid understanding of ethics and its application to data and AI.General knowledge of data and AI regulations.Team leadership and strategic planning; strong communication and stakeholder engagement.Additional InformationAdvert: Working at Sage means supporting millions of small and medium sized businesses with technology to work faster and smarter.
