Job Description

Associate Director / Director (Economics) - competitive salary - London, Manchester or Remote, United Kingdom (4-Day Working Week, hybrid)

A fast-growing advisory firm blending economics, public affairs, policy, and data is looking for an Associate Director/ Director to lead and grow its economics function.

The consultancy works with central and local government, trade bodies, and private clients, delivering projects that range from major funding bids and economic appraisals to think tank–style commissions that shape policy conversations. Current and past work has included Freeport applications, Levelling Up Fund bids, and major independent reviews.

The firm offers autonomy, creativity, and a genuine work-life balance – including a 4-day working week for everyone.

Role

This is a senior position with both delivery and growth responsibilities.

You will:

  • Lead and expand the economics team, developing capability and mentoring junior colleagues
  • Win and deliver high-value projects across regeneration, housing, and policy – ensuring outputs meet Green Book standards
  • Represent the practice externally, building client relationships and engaging at events
  • Collaborate across practices, contributing economic insight to wider public affairs and policy work
  • Support work-winning, from writing compelling bids to shaping the firm’s economics strategy

Key Skills

  • A background in economics, policy, or appraisal, gained in consultancy, government (e.g., Treasury, Homes England), or a think tank
  • Expertise in regeneration, infrastructure, housing, or Green Book–aligned projects
  • Strong client engagement skills and the ability to drive business development
  • Experience producing clear, impactful reports and leading analytical projects
  • Leadership ability: empathetic, collaborative, and capable of developing junior talent
  • A self-starter who thrives in a flat, fast-paced environment and isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves
  • Desirable: Experience producing policy-focused reports or thought-leadership pieces; someone who brings fresh perspectives to a growing, currently male-heavy team

Benefits

  • 4-day working week (Monday–Thursday) for all employees
  • Competitive salary with performance-based bonuses and Equity options scheme
  • Generous leave allowance with flexible bank holidays
  • Learning and development budget and career progression support
  • Flexible hours, remote working, and opportunities for international working

If you’re ready to shape an economics practice within a high-growth, purpose-driven consultancy, while enjoying a genuinely progressive way of working, we’d love to hear from you
