Business Development Director
Position Description
At CGI, we empower our people to shape the future of industries by building lasting partnerships and delivering meaningful change. In this role, you'll play a pivotal part in expanding our presence across Scotland's Local Government sector, forging strong networks, and driving long-term opportunities that help councils deliver more efficient, citizen-focused services. You will be at the forefront of building new relationships, working alongside a collaborative team, and contributing to innovative strategies that strengthen CGI's role as a trusted partner in public service transformation.
CGI was recognised in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work List 2025 and has been named a UK 'Best Employer' by the Financial Times. We offer a competitive salary, excellent pension, private healthcare, plus a share scheme (3.5% + 3.5% matching) which makes you a CGI Partner not just an employee. We are committed to inclusivity, building a genuinely diverse community of tech talent and inspiring everyone to pursue careers in our sector, including our Armed Forces, and are proud to hold a Gold Award in recognition of our support of the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant. Join us and you'll be part of an open, friendly community of experts. We'll train and support you in taking your career wherever you want it to go.
Due to the secure nature of the programme, you will need to hold UK Security Clearance or be eligible to go through this clearance. This is a hybrid position.
Your future duties and responsibilities
In this role, you will focus on developing new opportunities across Scotland's Local Government sector, expanding CGI's reach beyond established accounts. You will use your knowledge of the local government landscape and your professional network to identify opportunities, initiate conversations, and position CGI as the partner of choice. Working closely with internal teams, you will shape a coherent business development strategy, build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, and help create the pipeline that will underpin future growth.
You will also collaborate with marketing and bid teams to craft compelling propositions, ensuring CGI is strongly positioned to win work that transforms services for citizens. This is a role where your ability to take ownership, bring creativity to engagement strategies, and thrive in a supportive environment will be key to your success.
Key responsibilities:
Identify and develop new business opportunities across Scotland's Local Government sector
Build and nurture relationships with senior stakeholders in councils and public sector bodies
Shape and execute a coherent business development strategy in collaboration with CGI teams
Work with marketing to design and deliver targeted engagement campaigns
Build and maintain a long-term opportunity pipeline to support bidding and growth
Represent CGI at sector events, forums, and networks to strengthen market presence
Required qualifications to be successful in this role
To succeed in this role, you will bring strong knowledge of the Scottish Local Authority and Local Government landscape, proven business development experience, and the ability to leverage networks to open doors and create opportunities. You should combine strategic thinking with hands-on relationship-building skills.
Essential qualifications:
Strong track record in business development within the public sector, ideally Local Government
Established network of contacts across Scotland's Local Authorities
Proven ability to develop and deliver a business development strategy
Experience of working with marketing and bid teams to shape opportunities
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Commercial awareness and ability to identify long-term growth opportunities
