Director of Legal & CoSec

New Today

Help us protect peace of mind for families across the UK. At Dignity, we’re more than a funeral provider—we’re trusted custodians of people’s futures.

We are now looking for a Director of Legal & Company Secretary—a strategic leadership role at the heart of our mission. This is an opportunity to join a business with real purpose and play a key role in safeguarding our legal and regulatory standing while enabling confident, transparent decision-making across the organisation.

Your role in our story...

You’ll lead the delivery of expert legal counsel and corporate governance across Dignity’s operations, supporting the Board, Executive Directors, and wider Group functions. From commercial contracts and regulatory compliance to data protection and Board support, you’ll ensure our legal frameworks are robust, proportionate, and aligned with our values.

You’ll also serve as Company Secretary, overseeing governance structures, filings, and committee support—helping us maintain clarity, accountability, and trust at every level.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Leading the Legal and Company Secretarial function, covering property, commercial, regulatory, governance, and compliance.
  • Providing pragmatic, business-focused legal advice across contracts, disputes, and strategic matters.
  • Supporting the Board and Committees with governance, documentation, and meeting preparation.
  • Overseeing data protection and GDPR compliance, including training and risk mitigation.
  • Managing relationships with external law firms, auditors, and regulatory bodies (FCA, CMA).
  • Administering insurance portfolios including Employer Liability, Personal Injury, and Public Liability.
  • Collaborating with investor company General Counsel on strategic corporate matters.
  • Leading and mentoring a high-performing legal and governance team.

What You'll Bring

  • Significant post-qualification experience in commercial law, ideally within financial services or regulated sectors.
  • Proven Company Secretary experience, supporting Boards and Committees with governance and compliance.
  • Strong background in data protection and GDPR, with practical implementation experience.
  • Experience managing insurance portfolios and supporting compliance functions.
  • Qualified Solicitor (UK jurisdiction preferred); additional qualifications in Company Secretarial practice (e.g. ICSA/CGI) are advantageous.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, actionable guidance.
  • High professional integrity, with a genuine interest in protecting people’s futures.

What We Provide To You

  • Annual salary of up to £150,000.
  • Company Bonus Scheme.
  • 25 Days Holiday + Bank Holidays.
  • BUPA Private Healthcare (Family).
  • Pension Scheme 4% Matched.
  • Life Assurance X4 Annual Salary.
  • Free On-Site Parking.
  • Access to our internal apprentice & personal development schemes.

We know that diverse teams make better decisions, build better products, and create a better place to work. Whoever you are, wherever you’re from, and whatever your life looks like, we’d love to hear from you.
