Vox Partners is working exclusively with the Healthcare Distribution Association (HDA) to appoint their new Executive Director.

The HDA represents businesses who store, manage, and distribute medicines, medical devices and healthcare services to community pharmacies, hospitals, and dispensing doctors. Their member companies are responsible for distributing 95% of the NHS’ medicines, enabling a safe, efficient, and high-quality supply chain for patients, the NHS, and the healthcare sector.

THE ROLE:

A unique opportunity has arisen for a high quality and experienced policy and public affairs leader to join this fast-growing dynamic trade association. The successful candidate will lead, represent and develop all the activities of this vitally important association and establish themselves as the voice of pharmaceutical wholesaling across multiple stakeholders including government, the NHS, sector trade associations and businesses distributing and supplying medicines across the U.K.

The multi-faceted nature of the role requires a wide range of skills including very high levels of self-motivation, interpersonal and external communication skills, team leadership experience and a high degree of personal credibility.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

As Executive Director, you will be responsible for:

• Understanding all government, regulatory, technical, and commercial issues and the impacts on the pharmaceutical wholesale sector via liaison with all relevant stakeholders;
• Representing the medicines wholesale distribution trade sector in engagement with government, politicians, the NHS in primary and secondary care settings, the MHRA and other regulators, pharmaceutical manufacturers and trade bodies;
• Leading the mission, strategy and policies of the HDA as agreed by the HDA board;
• Communicating HDA views to all relevant industry stakeholders and ensure these views are represented effectively during any consultation, information- gathering and decision-making phases;
• Representing the HDA and its agreed policies externally to the government, both centrally and in the devolved nations, politicians and the media, and at flagship industry events;
• Leading the management of the broader HDA team including external consultancy support; and
• Managing member company subscriptions and the HDA budget of this not-for-profit association.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

The successful candidate will have operated at senior or preferably director role in either a trade association, public affairs advisory, or government role. They will be able to demonstrate experience of:

• Working in, or advising, regulated industries;
• Building deep relationships with multiple stakeholders across government organisations, regulatory bodies, other trade associations and businesses.
• Engaging with government officials and senior managers and directors from industry;
• Managing a high performing team, whilst providing mentoring and coaching;
• Financial management - budgeting, forecasting and cost management; and
• Public speaking, including presenting arguments on complex topics to a range of audiences.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

Competitive salary, dependent on experience.
