Base Salary: £230,000

Please note: This is not a sales role.

Our client, a major and rapidly expanding UK Civils / Utilities group, is seeking an accomplished and commercially astute Group Commercial Director to join the group’s executive leadership team.

The position requires on‑site presence at the London office three days per week.


Key Responsibilities


  • Strategic Leadership: Define and implement the group’s commercial strategy to drive sustainable growth on infrastructure contracts across water, gas, electricity, and telecoms.
  • Commercial Oversight: Oversee all commercial operations, encompassing contract negotiation, risk management, and profit optimisation across multiple business units.
  • Business Development: Strengthen and expand relationships with key clients, consultants, and stakeholders to support long‑term partnerships and new contract opportunities.
  • Team Leadership: Inspire, mentor, and develop a high‑performing commercial team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Market Insight: Track industry trends, regulatory updates, and emerging technologies to inform forward‑thinking commercial decisions.
  • P&L Accountability: Drive revenue and margin performance across the group through robust commercial governance and disciplined financial management.


About You


  • At least ten years of senior‑level commercial leadership experience within the UK utilities or civil engineering contracting sector.
  • Proven success in securing, managing, and delivering multi‑million‑pound infrastructure projects.
  • Exceptional commercial judgement with strong negotiation, risk management, and contract administration expertise.
  • Outstanding communication and stakeholder‑management capability, with board‑level credibility.
  • Demonstrable track record in leading and developing high‑performing commercial teams.
  • Strategic thinker with tangible results orientation.
  • In‑depth understanding of contract law, regulatory frameworks, and commercial best practice.
  • Degree‑qualified in a relevant discipline (e.g. Quantity Surveying, Business, Engineering).
