Our National Innovations Relief Team works with a range of companies, from start-ups to multinationals, to assist them in preparing claims for Research & Development tax relief. We collaborate with clients across sectors such as manufacturing, engineering, life sciences, software, and digital technologies to identify and prepare successful tax relief claims. The variety of projects and our impressive client list will challenge you daily, helping you expand your capabilities and grow professionally.

As an Associate Director within the Innovation Reliefs Software team, you will be part of an actively growing, specialist tax team at RSM. The role involves working directly with IT specialists in various businesses at the forefront of technology, within a global professional services firm. This role can be based in any of our Central or Scotland region offices (Birmingham, Nottingham, Leicester, Milton Keynes, Cambridge, Edinburgh, or Glasgow).

You will make an impact by:

  1. Developing claim methodologies and managing the preparation of R&D tax relief claims for submission to HMRC.
  2. Leading interviews with clients’ technical and finance teams to advise on R&D tax relief and assist in identifying qualifying activities and expenditure.
  3. Demonstrating expertise in writing technical descriptions of client projects for reports.
  4. Identifying, leading, and progressing business development opportunities, including pitching for work with new and existing clients.
  5. Serving as a point of contact on specific R&D software projects.
  6. Utilising your computer science or developer skills to assist junior team members' development.

  4. Experience in preparing and submitting R&D tax relief claims.
  5. Clear and concise writing skills.
  6. Experience responding to HMRC enquiries.
