Our National Innovations Relief Team works with a range of companies, from start-ups to multinationals, to assist them in preparing claims for Research & Development tax relief. We collaborate with clients across sectors such as manufacturing, engineering, life sciences, software, and digital technologies to identify and prepare successful tax relief claims. As an Associate Director within the Innovation Reliefs Software team, you will work in a growing, specialist tax team at RSM. The role involves working directly with IT specialists in various businesses at the forefront of their technology, while also experiencing a role in a global professional services firm. This position can be based in any of our Central or Scotland region offices (Birmingham, Nottingham, Leicester, Milton Keynes, Cambridge, Edinburgh, or Glasgow).

Your responsibilities include:

  1. Developing claim methodologies and managing the preparation of R&D tax relief claims for submission to HMRC.
  2. Leading interviews with clients’ technical and finance teams to advise on R&D tax relief and to assist with identifying qualifying activities and expenditure.
  3. Writing technical descriptions of clients’ projects for reports.
  4. Identifying and progressing business development opportunities, pitching for work with new and existing clients.
  5. Leading as a point of contact on specific R&D software projects.
  6. Utilising your computer science or developer skills to assist junior team members' development.

  5. Clear and concise technical writing skills.
  6. Experience responding to HMRC enquiries.
